Will somebody please give me an English language support address for PayPal?

PayPal has changed the way my account operates by what I consider to be very under-hand methods.

I have been forced to change my currency to euros and my payment method to direct debit.

I am also being denied access to PayPal customer services in Spain because they do not provide them in English.

My Spanish is OK for day to day living but anybody who has ever seen the Spanish legal system in operation will know that where technical processes are involved there can be absolutely no errors whatsoever. In a situation involving banks and finaces it is necessary to employ an interpreter with a very high level of ability in technical Spanish PLUS an absolute awareness of the subtleties involved in the way questions are expected to be answered. As you can imagine, this is very expensive and, in times of a dispute, could cause a dispute to be lost by forfeit because no such interpreter is available - even if you could afford one.

It seems very strange that PayPal can insist, in English, that I verify my account (which has been verified for several years) and change my method of payment and then refuse to give me support in my own language.

    It looks like if you type in www.paypal.com/us it takes you to the U.S. version of PayPal, and you can go from there. There's also PayPal UK. Maybe one of those will work.

    There's no actual email address for support given on the site that I can find, just a contact form in the Help section.

    The phone number for support in the US is 402-935-2017 -- be kinda expensive for you to call but at least they speak English.

    Thanks Ken,

    I will try the phone number if I can. PayPal now has some sort of locator software so that no matter how I try to get to their web site, even from a cyber café, I am taken to the Spanish site.

    This development can be very disadvantageous for anybody living in a country where their first language is not of that country. I know Spain is a special case because the legal system here is designed to slow things down but the sort of language used in any legally binding document needs to be understood precisely.

    To put a really black interpretation on the situation, the forms I had to approve were in English - but I can only trust that PayPal translated those forms absolutely to the letter of Spanish law. If they made a small mistake, it could result in a nightmare situation where, ten years down the line, lawyers would still be making money arguing about a time expired dispute.

    Thanks Ken, it took several attempts but I was finally able to send an email support request.

    I have always supported PayPal but this has shaken my confidence a bit - especially since PayPal Spain is already acting illegally by refusing to supply details to an EU citizen in their own language. If I don't get a reasonable response from PayPal USA I will have to close my bank account - there is nothing in it but Direct Debits in Spain are treated by some companies like a licence to charge and withhold refunds when the charge proves to be incorrect. Yes - it happens a lot!
