How To Send a Gift To Someone At a News Network?

Hello everyone,

A news personality who've I've conversed with often on Twitter and some on Facebook recently completed her MBA degree. I wanted to send her two books (about business and life that I'm purchasing from Amazon.com) as a "graduation gift" of sorts that I think will help propel her further in her career. However, I am not sure which is the best way to go about sending them to her at her news network (and her actually receiving them).

- Send them in a package (directly from Amazon.com via their "Give as a Gift" option) to the news network and put "C/O NAME" (NAME = news personality)

- Send them in a package (send to my home first from Amazon.com, then use FedEx or UPS to send from my home to the news network) to deliver the package to the news network and put "C/O NAME" (NAME = news personality)

-Send them in a package (send to my home first from Amazon.com, then use FedEx or UPS) to deliver the package to the news network and follow directions from news network after I call them)

The only thing with the third option is that, I fear the news network won't allow me to do it, especially after 9/11 and the incidents/powders with various packages. I know that security is tighter, understandably, but I want to be sure to the best of my ability and control that the books get in her hands. (I'd prefer it being a surprise if possible). I know they post their mailing address, so presumably, people can send them mail; just not sure if a package with a few books would be considered suspicious or not.

Also, I was considering the second option because I had considered writing a congratulatory and encouraging note inside of one of the books. I don't think Amazon's "Give as a Gift" option puts the note inside of a book, but instead puts it on the package itself. That'd be okay, I guess, but if receiving the package at home first and then sending the package via my home to the news network would increase the chances of the news network delivering it to her, I'd be willing to take the package first and send it myself.

What would be the best way to go about doing this? I'd appreciate any suggestions, thoughts, experience if anyone has sent items/packages/gifts to personalities at news networks - thank you.

Take care,

Joe

  • You can call the news network to find out. Chances are good they want to avoid unsolicited mail to on-air personalities for security reasons. If that doesn't work you can see if they have a personal website that may tell how to send them stuff. You can also call their agent and ask them how to send them a package as you described.

If it comes from Amazon it's less likely to be viewed as suspicious in my opinion - and I'd have it sent as a gift from the site.

I think however it's sent - you should expect it will be opened and examined by the network but it should be passed on to her after that.

Sounds like you've got some rapport with this gal. Try and find out the exact division of the network she's going to be and where. Jane Doe, CBS is pretty general and might not find its way to her. But Jane Doe, Building 10a, Consumer news division whatever, might have a much better chance of reaching her. I also agree that leaving the Amazon imprint on the package is a great idea. Good luck.

    Hello everyone,

Thank you for the great advice - most appreciated!

I wish I knew who her agent was, and she doesn't have a personal website (to my knowledge). Probably the Amazon gift option is the best option - I wish they would allow a longer personal note, though, and it's on the package (not inside the package). But, it's certainly better than no personal note at all.

Again, I greatly appreciate the thoughts and advice - thank you.

    Hello again,

The books I planned on sending were The Greatest Salesman In The World Parts I and II, but am debating now whether those are too controversial from a Christian perspective (I.e. Paul being a "salesman" and that was how he was successful in promoting God's message or because religious overtones were woven into the story). The news reporter is Christian, goes to church every Sunday, gives up something for Lent, though I don't think she is a "diehard" so to speak.

Do you think the books I mentioned would be offensive to her as a Christian? My initial thought was no, but after seeing a few reviews, I am thinking of reviewing the books again in a little more detail (it's been a little while since I last read them). Would you consider another book or books with a similar message to those, but perhaps presented differently than "Best Salesman."

I'd appreciate any thoughts, ideas, perspectives- thank you.

    Take care,

    Joe

Sounds to me like you are over thinking the process. If you send books, send one YOU appreciate and think she might find interesting/helpful...it will be her choice to read the books or not.

    Hello Kay and Daniel,

Kay- good point. I sometimes over think things, second-guess myself when I shouldn't. Thanks for reminding me to trust my instincts and go with what I feel is right or appropriate!

Daniel- good fallback option if this doesn't go through/work- the thought/mention is better than doing nothing at all.

    Thanks again- take care,

You should try to contact with the news network, they will tell you exactly how you can send a gift.

I have never thought about sending gift to news network before
