Barely Avoided An Accident

Recently, I took out a children's book on the solar system from the library and read it to my 3-year-old son. He listened and looked as I read it, but not so responsively, so I wasn't sure if he was getting it, not that I expected him to. I just wanted to give him exposure to the concept.

Later that day, I was carrying a hot cup of coffee and nearly fell when I stepped onto a small rubber ball on the floor. My son was on the floor. Thankfully, I didn't spill the hot coffee on him. He had a big red ball on the floor with smaller balls arranged around it. I asked him, "What is this?!" He said, "Sun, earth, planets.." I replied, "Yes! Planets go in circles around the sun." He looked at me, shaking his head, and said, "Not circles, Daddy. Orbits are oval-shaped."

As another homeschooling mum, I love seeing children learn in this way, and really appreciate parents who expose their children to the opportunity to absorb knowledge.

    Thunderbird,

I love hearing about your three year old. As a parent I would advise you to be careful. He's smarter than all of us combined and will soon be in charge of the household. What a smart little guy!

Yeah, people don't seem to understand that you don't have to look or react to understand.

I knew a very, very top notch attorney who would conduct complex case strategy meetings with lights off and hands over his eyes, or eyes closed. No phones or interruptions, of course. Just LISTEN and think about what his partners or associates were saying.
