For some, it acts as a community.

To some, it's fun. Like playing with a kitten that keeps doing funny tricks.

Probably becuase some parts on IM are repetitive or boring, so we may skulk down here, and have some fun!

But still facebook and twitter is in business. You can open facebook/twiteer/myspace on a different tab of your browser. Right? I am curious as Im thinking what made off topic forum such popular while I cant see anything special here.

You cant share pictures, videos. Tag photos, share statues blah blah blah...

        Well, that explains everything!

Best you head back upstairs then and I suggest you take the stairs as the elevator is reserved only for those who see how very special the OT really is. :p

I'll actually try to give an honest answer. (My first answer above was smart alecky).

There are some very interesting people here.

The topics are interesting...but the people are fascinating.

A few exceptionally bright people, several funny people (you know who you are),
A few very witty people, and ...well..a few crazy people.

There aren't any really stupid people though, and I don't know why.

Have you ever seen a Bugs Bunny cartoon?

Pure escapist fun. A little madness. Some very quick wit.
That how I think of this forum.

Hang around long enough and the reason for the OT will become obvious -- otherwise enjoy your Facebook and Twitter accounts and all that goes with it.

By the way, we can and do share pictures and videos here quite often.

      To answer the OP's question:

The OTF is so popular because there's a large contingent of sesquipedalians who use it as a second home; a sure sign that linguistic intelligence thrives in abundance here. This is as opposed to the monosyllabic offerings to be found in the main forum where all the resident philosophunculists and ultracrepidarians dwell.

Yes siree, there's no lethologica to be found here. Where else could you revel in cachinnation every evening, charientism, and experience gymnophoria on such a wide scale.

If you fit in here, then you're more than welcome to join us on one of our OTF day trips. The next trip on our agenda is a leisurely break at the delightful village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch.

      Long live sesquipedalianism. Yay! :p

Well, in my youth I was a cruciverbalist - after first becoming proficient as an abecedarian. I then progressed to adoxography. And finally, I found myself of a suitable standard to deliver a verbal recumbentibus to all and sundry.

Sometimes I have a day off and just say yes or no to people all day.

      You still here.

We've hijacked your thread and you're now banished to the nether regions of Facebook.

FYI, the OTF is an acquired taste, and like all acquired tastes is meant to be taken in moderation. You'll find lots more replies to the thread over a period of time, unlike the main marketing forum where everyone's in a rush to push up their post-count whilst posing idiosyncratic views and opinions.

      Now go. Shoo! :p

Yes,that happens when we feed off other's comments. I call it discussion.
If you see nothing special here maybe you should open your eyes? When you joined in 2011 I had been a member of this forum foe about 13 years. I spent a heck of a lot of time in the upper forums, and learned much over the years. But I have also spent a lot of time here and learned a lot and made friends.

Granted the Off Topic forum might not be your cup of tea, and that's fine,as someone said ( I know it was you Kay) participation here as in every forum here is voluntary.

But PLEASE don't compare it to Facebook.

Smart and friendly people are here at this forum.

I have checked above text with FLESCH-KINCAID GRADE LEVEL (FK). The guy who wrote it must to know what it means (based on his comments). For others I explain. It is just test for readability. The FK was 11.2.

An FK level close to 11 is considered moderately difficult to understand.

Does anybody read the sales page to the end with FK like this or greater and

take actions? Could anybody try and share with community?

      Long live sesquipedalianism. Yay!

The FK is so out of date it's useless. It was devised in 1976 for cripes sakes. That was before the Dpt of Ed took over the dumbing down of our new generation of fluoridated idiots.

This little tome was not "moderately difficult" at all. It was complete Greek to probably all but the upper 10% of Americans. It's obvious you haven't been in a classroom in awhile. The level of reading comprehension in colleges these days isn't what it used to be in high schools. I would not judge a piece of sales literature using such a scale. I could use quite a bit of technical jargon in my main genre that people who have strong interests in that field will understand, yet would leave the general public clueless, too. Rated difficult, yet appropriate for the audience.

Example - I might lose Bobby's interest on a sales page with the term "botryoidal chalcedony", yet it's actually a common term and understood even by many young children with strong interests in the field of rock and gem hunting.

Don't scale your pages by an outdated test - go by the linguistic norms of the group you are targeting.

It has been said, by secret, covert ops, (which keeps me from Googling the source), that the average commercial is geared toward a fourth grader.

Here's the thing.... (Which you've probably picked up on by now)

                    IM 24/7 gets OLD.
The OT is the perfect diversion.
                    I started IM in '03.
The stuff I read now is the same stuff I was seeing then.
There are some technical changes but that's about it.
There is currently an SEO tutorial, (which I shall not name), that
claims to be the answer to the last Google 'slap', or Panda, or
whatever the hell the last one was called, that teaches the exact same methods
                    that I learned 6 - 7 years ago.
They worked then, and they work now.
So, I just hang out here the OT involve myself in some philosophic discussions
                    or get a few grins.

A Holiday Inn! Oh, good. You're the person I need to talk to. I hate turnip. There is no way of preparing it to make it pleasing to my palate. How can I politely convey this to folks who've taken it on as a personal challenge to prepare it in a way that I would like, keep on trying to sneak it to me in one form or other. Thank you.

I think that this thread is demonstrating brilliantly what the OT is all about!

Oh - you want the one for politicians? That will cost extra. Trust me on that one. - Sal
Hmmmm, l dunno, might be worth the extra cost, although eventhough the water would be heavily fluoridated, and the only video available would be Lincoln, the petty cash in the drawers, and the diary full of everything they are suppressing might be worth the stay?

Obviously keeping away from the GM, food would be a must; best that l go to Maccers, across the street, at least their food will only make you sick, it won't give you another limb the next day!!!

And l forgot the story books there, will be politically correct; so Jack and Jill, didn't go up the hill, and Jack fell down, since that is sexist, and possibly racist, and probably unconstitutional, it would be corrected to read....

Jack and Jill went up a particularly steep hill, so Jack took out a health insurance package, but decided to leave his helmet at home.

Jill on the other hand looked into Occupational health and safety, and bought a helmet, as well as goggles, just in case of high winds.

Then Jack fell down, had a serious head injury, and Jill slipped as well, but saved herself a serious head injury.

Jack sued the local council for inadequate signage against this being a dangerous hill, and Jill, testified as a witness.

After a lenghly court battle Jack got just over a million for damages, and neck spazems, and memory lapses, and depression, (although the million magically fixed that?). And Jill got a out of court settlement, for $100,000.

And they all lived happily ever after!

Phew, not going near Peter Pan after reading that one!

I am just curious about popularity of this sub forum. Not against it. Some members are looking aggressive as I asked why this sub forum is popular!

However WF is specialized on IM mainly. I understand some of you also like to talk with other WF members without adding them to Facebook or any social network. Thus this subforum gets popularity.

What part of Off Topic do you not understand?

      Okay, read this very slowly...

The Warrior Forum is an internet marketing business forum. This sub forum is called Off Topic. When one goes off from the topic at hand, what happens? They are now talking about anything and everything not internet marketing.

So you could say that the Off Topic forum is where we go off on rabbit trails.

Do you need a cartoon to understand? Have you ever seen Disney's "Alice in Wonderland?" Must I explain more?

Yup, it's a good diversion when I'm writing. The main forum is an exercise in absurdism.

Do I need a mentor to succeed? How do I get free traffic? Where can I get articles for nothing from people who can't write? I can't transfer my WordPress files. I've been working on SEO for 13 years and I'm still not making money -- what should I do?

        Stay tuned...
Yes, l spent years on my first site, which is 5.5 years old, and l make a whopping $2-3 dollars a month, but lose about $30 to run it, (l think most can guess which host l am using).

For me SEO usually means long periods of effort and b**** all in return!

Ken, you forgot these classic ones....

I am broke, how can l make as much money as possible as quickly as possible?

Or l am getting evicted and thrown into the snow filled street next week, how can l make a quick $5000?

Unfortunately newbies, who have just figured out how to email, and bought their first shiny object that promises wealth with a few clicks of a mouse, come to the IM section.

And we have to as positively as possible tell them, it could take years, of effort to turn things around.

Although getting on the good side of a seasoned IM,er could reduce the time period a bit.

Still hard; a newbie wants the press the mouse 3 times, and wealth pours into their bank account, and we have to tell them, unless dumb luck plays a part, it could take 5 or more years of hard work, heart wrenching failure, and almost fanatical dedication, while seeing your friends disappear, and your family members, chew you out now and then, (because being in a 9-5 job, they are an authority on IM wealth creation)?

This isn't for the faint hearted, but what we end up with at the end, makes it all worthwhile!

So coming here as you said Ken, is like walking from the office into a tropical island! :p

You'd be hard pressed to find any forum relating to any topic that doesn't have a section for general off topic discussion...and one that isn't popular.

You answered your own question in the latter paragraph.

People like to converse with people they know in the very place they share an interest in. There's no need to introduce another platform to the mix and many people aren't indoctrinated to assume that need Facebook for such things.

    Claude,
There aren't any really stupid people though, and I don't know why.
Sesquipedalians scare them off. The medical term is polysillyophobia: A ridiculous fear and/or resentment of big words and the people who use them.

While heading off to more mundane locales, the premeditatedly stupid can often be heard grumbling about "those damned know-it-alls."

I think the "interesting people" thing has led to another strong group characteristic. If you can have fun, and argue sensibly without being a jerk, the other folks here will have your back. Even if they disagree with you strongly. As frustrating as this section can be at times, it's the part of the forum where respect matters the most.

That's kinda an ambiguous name, eh? Many silly phobia. I guess someone scared of elaborate syllabic structures would have a lot of silly phobias. That would be enough to send them fleeing for the elevator.

So you think a polysillyophobic pees themselves if they hear someone say antidisestablismentarianism?
