American Idol Or The Voice Which Is Better

Which is better American Idol or the Voice, lately me and my wife have been enjoying the Voice more. I guess it's the way the judges swing around so they don't judge the people on their looks-but either way I am becoming a addict for the Voice.

The Voice hands-down! American Idol bores me ever since Paula and Simon left. The judges on the Voice have more of a chemistry.

Idol is old and tired - and the judges this year were ridiculous. I dumped it after the first two segments. One or two more seasons like this one and that show is gone.

The Voice is so much better - judges, format and contestants.

I tend to record this type of show so I can watch the talent and if the judges drone on and one I can fast forward.

I like American Idol before when the original judges was still there because you can see that they are eager to find someone who has this huge potential to become a star and has a great voice. The last episode of AI is boring that's why The Voice wins!

Feh. Nashville Star had 'em both beat, before they cancelled it.

In my view, I've always enjoyed American Idol however, they have turned it into shit with the judges throughout the years. I would have to say the voice is more addicting now.

I tend to agree, the judges on the voice seem more complimentary and have better personalities. This show will be around a while I think

Both have had some quality singers, but the Voice might seem a little better because they actually have a screening process to get people who have been singing in clubs. Many on the Voice are already struggling professionals or former background singers for well-known acts. American Idol on the other hand, is a open cattle call when they hold auditions, so you have to sit through a bunch of low quality acts before you get to a select group that has a chance of becoming something good. American Idol needs new judges, this current group adds little to the show.

The Voice - hands down. I was very upset that Judith Hill was ousted - but one of my faves is still in - so Michelle Chamuel FTW!!!!

Last night she sang "One" with her coach Usher - it was electrifying and so was her rendition of Annie Lennox's "Why" ---check out the videos:
      studio version of "One"

and then here is "Why" (studio version)

I like all three acts remaining and I wasn't surprised when Judith Hill left. Great talent but already professionally developed - and I'm sure the show gave her the exposure she needed.

On a show like this the contestants have to have a unique quality and forge a connection with the audience. Without that - they won't win.

I'd be happy with any of those left as the winner as I think they will each have recording contracts and great careers after this.

While I prefer Danielle, I think Michelle has a strategic advantage just based on how the final three sorted out. You have two country artists vying for the same votes. They very well could negate each other.

Yes, I have no data to support this assumption. It's just a gut feeling.

I also think Danielle could possibly run into "Hot Girl/No Dates" syndrome. The judges have talked her up so much, people may neglect to vote for her because they figure everyone else will.

I spend way too much time thinking about this $#!t.

EDIT: I agree with Kay. All three will get signed. Although, the Voice doesn't have a great track record when it comes to their alumni's careers.

The Voice has a short track record - AI has been on TV for 12 years.

One thing I've respected - the judges on the Voice seem to often stay in touch and keep helping the people they coached.

The numbers I'd be interested in are on how many of the finalists are earning a good living in the music industry a few years after being on these shows.

Kay, I get what you're saying, but The Voice winners just seem to fall off the face of the earth after they win. Javier Colon? Haven't seen him. Jermain Paul? Haven't seen him. Cassadee Pope? Nope.

Idol does, or used to do, a much better job marketing their winners after the show. Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia Barrino had immediate traction. Ruben Studdard did, however, seem to fall off the earth, but Clay Aiken more than made up for that. Lord, he still seems to be everywhere.

I'm not saying The Voice winners won't go on to have careers. It just seems like The Voice doesn't do well at boosting careers after the show.

There could be a potential similarity in Season Four of both shows, though. Season Four of Idol gave us Carrie Underwood. Season Four of the Voice gave us Danielle Bradbery. We'll see what happens.

Idol has a tour for finalists - and I wonder if that makes a difference...to begin with. The first years of Idol gave the opinion that being a finalist/winner was a guarantee of success and clearly it isn't.

It's from months ago but I found it interesting.

Cassadee Pope just released her single - and it did well. Her first album comes out this fall.

Several like Reuben Stoddard started out great and then fizzled. His recording contract was dropped.

Ten years from now there may be a total of 5-10 names we remember from years of these talent shows.

Definitely has to be The Voice. I think that because they judge you purely on your voice away from looks and size it brings out better talent than say American Idol where judges can be pretty biased. I too have also become quite addicted to The Voice as of late and I really enjoy seeing singers who have come from nothing and very little confidence to becoming great, confident singers.

American Idol is by far a more professional production than The Voice. The stage sets and musicians that accompany Idol singers take it to a whole new level.

The musical chair judges from season to season may have hurt Idol ratings somewhat after the departure of Simon. I must admit though that Nikki's outspoken style was a very pleasant surprise in 2013 and what red blooded man could resist Jaylo's intoxicating beauty. I would watch the show just to gaze at that face.

IMO the contestants on The Voice would not have gotten to even the top ten on Idol and Seacrest is by far a better host than whoever that was on Voice. And.......If I have to look at Usher posing with is one knee up with his hand draped over it one more time, I'm going to puke! He just "too cool for his school"!

I liked Usher and Shakira. I was surprised at how personable both of them were and how well they fit into the mix. I have a habit of sitting with my foot up, too, so I'll leave that one alone.:p

Interesting to compare opinions on that. I thought Idol songs were over produced and at times the music sound level and the frantic backgrounds took away from the song for me.

To continue that point, I don't remember Idol's sets being quite as "showy" in the early years. If we're comparing the two shows, we really need to compare the first four seasons of each. On that mark, I'd call production a draw.

      Kay,
The first years of Idol gave the opinion that being a finalist/winner was a guarantee of success and clearly it isn't.
Losing doesn't guarantee failure, either. The one season of Idol I watched and didn't pick the winner within the first 2 or 3 shows with the finalists was the year Chris Daughtry was on. I picked him as the clear winner, and he lost. Went on to sell more copies of his first album than any other Idol contestant. (Possible exception was Carrie Underwood, but I doubt it. She's almost certainly killing him in lifetime record sales and concert revenues by this point, though.)

I picked Fantasia the year she was on, but I wasn't certain until she did Summertime. That gave me chills. The only performance on Idol or Nashville Star that was in the same category was when Chris Young first did "Drinking Me Lonely." I knew he'd win the first time I saw him, though.

For my money, they're the best two talents to come out of those shows. Fantasia won, and did next to nothing in terms of market visibility afterward. Young is a legend in country music already.

I haven't watched a whole show of The Voice yet.
