Jim Thorpe and Bruce Jenner are pretty much neck-and-neck.
But, I think Thorpe gets the nod.

Since Jenner never played pro football or baseball Thorpe clearly gets the nod.

Thorpe get's the nod in a big way IMHO.

I agree with you Thorpe was amazing.
Here is a little info on him.

"Thorpe won gold medals in both the decathlon and pentathlon events in the 1912 Olympics in Sweden. He was so good in track and field that he could also run the 100-yard dash in 10 seconds flat, the 220 in 21.8 seconds, the 440 in 51.8 seconds, the 880 in 1:57, the mile in 4:35, the 120-yard high hurdles in 15 seconds, and the 220-yard low hurdles in 24 seconds. In addition, Thorpe could long jump 23 ft 6 in and high-jump 6 ft 5 in. He could pole vault 11 feet, shot put 47 ft 9 in, javelin throw 163 feet, and throws the discus 136 feet. However, he was stripped of his medals because he played two years of semi-professional baseball.

The 6’1, 190 lb. Thorpe was an All-American halfback at Carlisle, scoring 25 touchdowns and 198 points in his last collegiate season. He was also the team’s defensive back, placekicker and punter. He was so good that after a 92-yard touchdown run was called back due to a teammate’s penalty, he ran a 97-yard touchdown on the very next play. He won the national championship in 1912, carrying the team on his shoulders."

    Jim Brown

Pro Football Hall of Fame and the greatest football player of all time. Led the league in rushing 8 of the 9 years he played. He was hurt during the season he didn't win the rushing title. Averaged 104.3 rushing yards per game, most in NFL history. Only player to lead the NFL in rushing touchdowns in five seasons.

Left the game in his prime to the call of fame and fortune in Hollywood. (Hey, this isn't a question of Best Decision Maker of All Time...)

College Football Hall of Fame - Considered the best all-around athlete at Syracuse, he earned 10 varsity letters in four different sports (basketball, football, lacrosse, track).

College Lacrosse Hall of Fame - He was a lacrosse second-team All-American selection in 1956 and earned first-team honors in 1957, finishing second in the nation in scoring his senior year.

In high school, he earned 13 letters playing five (!) sports: football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse and track.

Thorpe and Bo Jackson are suitable positions to argue.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

You're going to have to support that position, Doran.

It's hard to compare athletes from different eras.

More recently, I'll take Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders. Roy Jones dominated his weigh class in boxing and also played in the CBA. Lebron James could be, but not enough evidence to support it. But as a high school WR in football, he ran a 4.4 40. Guys that are 6'8" 260 aren't supposed to be that fast.

Some one else to consider that many don't think of is Wilt Chamberlain. He played pro basketball and volleyball and actually played point guard for the Globetrotters for all those years. Something to consider is, he was a borderline world class hurdler and possibly could have qualified for the Olympics in the 400 hurdles. How many 7 footers do you know with world class speed?

Also, guys like Dave Winfield and Dave Logan were drafted in all 3 major US sports.

I'd rule Bruce Jenner out. He only won one time. I'd take two time decatholon champs like Quentin Daily over Jenner.

I forgot about Roy Jones. He won championships at Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight. He was a force.

      Funny story.

In one of his books, Bill Russell said that if you played Jim Brown in chess and you beat him, he would want to play you over and over again until he beat you and if he couldn't beat you in chess etc., he would challenge you at something else - until he beat you at something - anything.

I hear Michael Jordan was once caught cheating a friends' mother in a friendly game of cards.

That's a good story. I wonder if Ali ever tried to tackle Brown.

Thanks for the data on Jim Thorpe; I agree! Several great sports figures
were mentioned, but they were only great in one sport, mostly. Jim Thorpe
