I find that going to a local hotspot for coffee, and to meet friends or clients I am able to get more done sometimes. Today I went to the Starbucks:p:p (that is where I am writng this) by my place, at lunch time for the school. Few students where there and quite. Some doing homework others buying drinks and leaving.
At times they are a little loud, this depends on the group that comes in.

Also I go in the morning or in the evening most of the time and it is quite. I have met friends there and clients. I enjoy this as I and many student talk about puters and learn and teach each other. Also I get inspired to work better at home. There are many people that feel that this not professional, and i agree with them. It depends on you and want you are doing.

Just to remember that some coffee spots are not the place to go. I know of a few Starbucks that this is not a good thing as they are very busy. Most of the ones that are in bookstores are good as the they are like a library, very quite.

Your choices in Canada may be more limited than here in the states, but in our larger cities down here there are many restaurants and coffee houses that offer free wifi internet service. There are quite a few people who use these places as their 'office'. With the advent of cell phones and the internet, we are no longer restrained to our homes.

Using places such as these may in many cases be better than having clients come to a messy, difficult-to-find home. Maybe you have a huge pothole in the driveway, maybe you live ten miles up a rough dirt road, maybe you just don't want clients to know where you live, meeting 'in town' may be a much better alternative for you.

I live Calgary,Alberta and we have few places that offer free wifi internet services and restaurants that do also. portable printer also helps. I also find a few unsecure wireless people to.

I agree this is better than having coming to your place of resident, which could look like a desaster.

      I second THAT!

Another tip: Try parking in motel parking lots, near the buildings. Many motels offer their guests free wifi internet service and the signal is so turned up that it easily bleeds into the parking lot.

Some are password secured, but most are not. If you come across one that is, simply make up a room number or try inserting the phone number of that particular motel if you know it. That usually gets you in.

I use to hunt for free wifi but I don't need to do it anymore. I have been using wireless broadband for more than 2 years and I work wherever and whenever I want.

I usually carry a spare battery with my laptop and also a car charger.

Do not get between a wombat and a chocolate biscuit; you will regret it dearly!

Yes, a car charger can be as simple as a 100 watt power inverter that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. It changes the DC battery power into AC power that your laptop needs. Just be sure to start the engine and let it idle for a bit to charge the battery when using your laptop for extended periods.

No need to 'hunt' for free wifi in the U.S. in this Google age. Just do a Google search of:

free wifi, (city and state) and take your pick.
