This is just about the most innocent and precious thing I've ever seen.

Well, it IS a young deer. Maybe it didn't develop fear. A couple days ago, I started pulling my car out, and noticed a neighbor on my walkway. Maybe 18" long, short ears, etc... A little bunny. I noticed it didn't seem afraid, and I walked to maybe 6' from it. I just wanted to get a better look. It looked pretty young. I really didn't want to get closer, but I bet I could. Of course, he or she just hopped away.

Baby animals are so cute, thanks for posting that Terra. Amazing how gentle that little girl was, she must have realized it was just a baby.

I was really impressed with that child - very few kids that age show that such empathy and understanding of animals.

Well,, a lot of kids would do that sort of thing. The deer DOES look VERY young, maybe days old, from the way it is walking. I found a video of a similar deer and they said it was 5-6 days old. But the little girl seems comfortable, as the deer does, and she seems to know where the deer might want to go, so I suspect this isn't the first time they did this. HECK, she might have seen and cared for the deer as a newborn, and the deer might view her as its mother.

It is nice that as much of a, to use a german expression, CEMENT CITY this country has become that wild animals still find their way, and people treat them nicely.

When you're raised in the country with no other kids to play with animals become your friends. That's a tiny deer. Even newborns are bigger than that out here. Wonder where she was?

    Awwwwwwwwwwwwww. So cute!

I heard a thud against our front door the other day. When I went out to look, it was a baby deer. Legs were still wobbly, couldn't have been more than a day or two old. Poor thing was really confused and tired from running. It stood there and we just looked at each other for a while.

I closed the front door and went out the garage. Then it ran in our garage!

I noticed men mowing across the road. The stopped the mowers and came over to talk to me. They told me this time of year, the mommas hide their babies in tall grass. Sometimes they don't see them and they saw this baby start running when they got close with the mower.

I asked them to stop mowing that section and had no idea what to do with the little critter.

I almost cried I felt so sorry for it. (I cry when I see a Kleenex commercial.)

The baby deer ran out of our garage and across the field behind us.

    Hope she found her momma.

She probably did. But they don't have too many predators these days in the cities.

    Very cute. And very tasty!

I mean the deer. Not the child. I do not recommend or condone the eating of children.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

I'm betting that little deer's momma agrees very strongly with not eating her children.

The people who videotaped this think the fawn is just hours old. They said that they had just gotten home from a canoe trip when this fawn stumbled across their front yard and into their daughter's arms. They said the fawn had a good sense about their daughter and followed her every step. They were inseparable from the moment they met. Their little girl knew it needed its mother, who they believe was off eating and recuperating from the birthing, so she led it back to the woods until it finally hunkered down. Aww!

A couple of days later, they saw a doe and a fawn in the yard and believe the mother and baby found one another.

I still can't get over how adorable that little fawn is and how the little girl and it took to one another. It's just so precious. And very cool that she will have a record of this experience forever because her parents taped it and even put it to music.

I think most mammals, deer included, tend to STAY with their young! After all, that IS one characteristic of mammals, and why they are called mammals. The young are born alive, and live on milk from the mother for a time.

I sincerely hope the fawn with the doe was the one in the video.
It was only hours old and the mother would not have left it voluntarily.
Of course, being in an urban environment, the mother could have been watching from near-by.
If not, the fawn would not survive.

    Cute!

It's always interesting to pay attention to the emotions we experience when we see people (or people and animals) having a real meaningful connection of some sort. It's very powerful stuff.

With a new baby. the mother still has to eat. I'm sure she didn't stray too far. I think they are right about it not being too old, though - I'd give it a few days at the most. It's pretty shaky. However, if something has happened to it's mother, the little guy will probably just go back to these people's home looking for food since it knows it won't get hurt there.
