Can someone offer help for applying "The Power of Now"

Hello everyone,

I've recently read the book called the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I must say it has completely changed my mindset. I use to try to do EFT for hours trying to think of any memory that may have caused my current situation and try to release it. Everything about the "Power of Now" makes sense to me and could radically change my life...I just can't apply it to my life.

I'm trying as hard as possible to live in the moment. One of my issues is a fear of driving out of my comfort zone. I was driving today trying hard to live in the moment and concentrate of what was going on around me. I had the idea to drive somewhere out of my comfort zone that I've never driven to before and it conjured up these feelings of anxiety. I tried to just observe the feelings and concentrate of the present. To no avail, I rationalized an excuse in my head and never drove to the place I wanted to try to drive to.

Can someone please give me some advice and help me out? Like I said, I believe in the concept and idea of "Now" and think it would change every aspect of my life. It could eliminate stress, worry, anger, fear, etc. I totally and completely believe in the idea of "Now" which is probably half the battle. The other half is applying it.

I just have the belief about myself that I'm awkward and always mess up. Obviously that's a idea and belief from the past which doesn't apply to the Now. I know that but it keeps popping up in my head.

Any help is greatly appreciated whether in the thread or through PM.

Pray. Ask for peace and serenity. Also consider that people drive to new places all the time without any negative consequences.

You might also want to read the book again. Tolle covers what you're going through in several different ways. You're going after monumental life-changing stuff here. It doesn't come over night. But it does come if you stay with it. Prayer helped me immensely. Good luck.

Yep, have that one on my shelf!

Good concept, but hard to do on a continual bases; l would recommend at least 5 minutes of meditation when you can every day, and stay in the moment then.

Your Subconscious can give you great ideas, by doing this, so it is worth looking into.

I try to meditate when l can, buy these days l am getting several minutes here and there.

Even just playing a motivational song or ocean waves, for 5 minutes on your computer will do.

But yeah, l tried doing it regularly, too hard to to constantly, so l tend to go with intuitive promptings, or if l am doing a graphic, and something doesn't feel right l will try to figure out what!

Tends to be more practical than trying to clear my head!!!

And don't be concerned about fear, there are some things in our world with great fear, but when you look into it, there is none!

Another useful little trick l developed is when, you go into a shopping ctr or public place and may be picking up fear, etc from people around you, just concentrate on yourself, or a point within.

You will find that if you concentrate on lets say an energy point within yourself, then you are more or less in the present moment, and any fear, anxiety, etc of being with people that aren't happy disappears!

Also a very effective trick to use if you need to speak in front of a large group of people.

I have used that a few times, and while a group may be scared of being picked of having to speak in front of 150 or 200 people, l will just use this trick and put my hand up, ask a question, and be relatively calm about it, while others look like they are falling apart.

Only catch is you need to balance this with speaking, or it is a constant balancing act, between falling apart and keeping cool. But it can be done!

      Good luck!

My friend, no pages of a book will tell you how to do something you are already doing. The trick to living in the present is simply realizing that you are never NOT living in the present. There is no wrong way to be aware. The wrong way is by thinking it is the right way! Pay attention, that is all. Or don't. Either way, there you are! Let yourself be confused. That's completely okay too. The mind isn't going to grasp the Now. It can't be held on to or passed along...try to imagine that it's true, if you don't feel that it is. You are never NOT in the Now. Accepting and being ok with the Now is another thing, but simplify it for yourself. Laugh when you don't want to. Take lightly what you once took seriously, and take seriously all that was once a joke. You'll feel your way through

I think applying a concept is 90% of the battle.

So you want to apply the concept of "now"? Ok.

Plan to drive to a place outside your comfort zone (which is probably a very small zone, right?).

As you become anxious and nervous and afriad....keep telling yourself ...

NOW I am not going to give in to anxiety
NOW I am not going to give up from fear
NOW I am going to go where I want
NOW I will not give myself an excuse to quit
NOW I will keep going, keep going, keep going

NOW I am there. I did it....and tomorrow I'll do it again.

      Yay me!

The best way to apply is probably how Kay King said. Stop your unproductive states before they occur, dont let your mind to respond blindly. This is in line with what Eben Pagan talks about in Accelerate.
Also surrender to what is and enjoy the process of doing it, instead of just doing it for the result. Thats the best takeaway from the book.
