I don't understand how an article about the person that bombed Boston is disrespectful. How can we understand such people if we refuse to look at who they are? How can we learn warning signs if we don't know who these people are?

Anyway - I think it's wrong to ban literature for any reason. If you don't want to know, don't read it, but censorship to me is about blocking ideas, and that to me is wrong. Nazi wrong. Burning the Library of Alexandria wrong.

While I understand why they think they are doing the right thing, I don't like the precedence it sets one little bit. The book banning our schools are doing now has already gone way too far. We don't need censorship to become a business practice, too.

I agree with your sentiment. I did not read the article so I can't comment on it, but it seems that we cave now to "political correctness" at the drop of a hat and for any reason. Look at the Paula Deen crap.

Frankly, I don't think there's a problem in this country with LACK of sensitivity. The problem is OVER sensitivity. Seems like people get insulted at just about anything these days.

As for Rolling Stone, I don't mind reading about a rock band or artist. But their political views don't really align with mine (to be polite). I had a free subscription when I bought my drums in 2008. After reading a few of their articles on the presidential race, I called and told them to cancel my free subscription.

I think that censorship is silly, or worse than silly really. However, the real issue here isn't whether they should write about such things but whether it's appropriate to feature someone like this on the cover.

Some people would consider being on the cover of a major magazine -no matter for what reason- a huge accomplishment. So featuring an alleged terrorist in this way could be seen as glorifying that type of action.

Whether or not it's appropriate, and no matter how many places "ban" the issue, and how many people claim it's just wrong, I would be willing to bet this issue will be one of their most successful issues. Rolling Stone didn't decide this lightly, I am sure. They most likely knew there would be blow-back. But for them it will be worth it, I think.

Like it or not, people are curious about this kind of thing. Why do you think the highway slows down on the OTHER side of an accident? Looking for bodies, that's why.
