What would you do if you had INFINITE CASH?

Hello there!

I have a quick question to you: what would you do if you had infinite cash?

Now, the reason I am asking you this question is because I just saw it on another forum (which has nothing to do with marketing btw) and I realized that this question, as much as it is a fun thought-experiment, is also a great unconscious measurement tool.

Here's what I mean: when you are asked this question, your true values, opinions (although you might not be so serious about the answer as it would not really become a reality, no really, millionaire is one thing, but infinite, nope) are revealed.

They are because you are free to play with your mind and say whatever feels "congruent" and "right" for you to so say. I realized this is actually a great question to ask oneself and everyone else as it forces you to be honest about your true relationship with money.

On the other forum, most answers were about themselves only, "I would get this and that" and I realized when I asked myself the question, "If I really had infinite cash, I could actually contribute to the world and not only think about myself".

So, my own answer, I realize today, is much more mature than it would have been a few years ago when I just got into this whole world of internet marketing and everything it entails.

I would first off, get an island for my mom and her dogs as I love dogs but I dislike cats. Then I would get myself a mansion with different sections where I and my (hopefully; cash make other people weird, particularly when you got all the cash) friends would hang out and do different stuff.

I would also consume lots of experiences such as parachuting and other experiences I cannot afford as of now. Finally, I would contribute to the world as I know from experience this is REALLY what would keep me happy and fulfilled as I know I would get bored with having infinite cash.

I would fix poverty in countries, develop technology so the earth can be habitable for the coming generations (as it looks now, my coming child which I might get within 10 years will probably not live until his 50s because of what we are doing to the earth).

What I think is great with this exercise is that we can force ourselves to be honest about ourselves in relationship to money and how we view it. This thought-experiment (depending on how serious you take it) is a great way to measure your own views, values and relationships you have regarding money.

It is a measurement of how focused you are on really WANTING TO PROVIDE VALUE TO THE WORLD (aka contributing) versus WANTING TO ONLY BECOME "RICH" OF CASH SO YOUR IRRATIONAL FANTASIES ARE FULFILLED.

Research in happiness shows that when we have enough money that we can get by without having to worry about it, we don't really become happier than the average person.

Happiness is perishable, and needs to be "exercised" on a daily basis to keep it fresh, in shape, healthy so to speak. Most things that make us happy are also free:

- Physical exercise
- Physical intimacy
- Enough sleep
- Healthy food
- Mindfulness
- Positive self-talk
- Socializing with people
- Following your passions
- Contributing to the world

This is what I have come to realized for the last 24 years of my life that I have lived so far.

I wanted to create this thread and hopefully discussion because I think it is an important piece of successful internet marketing as it forces you to be really honest about yourself and your relationship you have with money and success.

I would fund a ton of research for human-related health improvements. I would also fund space exploration and other such things. I wouldn't really spend it on anything unnecessary.

I don't think I would want that, and yes I am serious. Things lose their value when they become common. If you get access to an infinite money supply you won't appreciate wealth as much as before.

As for your question... I honestly don't know what I would do.

Infinite? Woah. Other than buying a huge mansion and exotic cars...
I would really invest them into a business which can benefit many people; cancer/HIV/terminal illness research...

As well as spend a lot of it teaching people how to get out of the rat race and not believing in the stupidity of slaving their lives and health away... so that they can spend more time with their loved ones.

And I would probably spend it on killing people who always demand money from rich people like these rich people owe them a living when they don't put in effort themselves. I hate these people.

Hello there again! Thank you very much for your replies.

Interesting answers, and they seem to go beyond "oneself" compared to that other forum I am hanging at (btw it's a forum for meeting women if you're a man, I am in the dating advice industry so that's why I am hanging there).

When the answer seems to include more than just oneself, that seems to me, to be a mature thing.

Now, because I said this, people might want to "lie" about it, I would recommend that you don't, because then you are not honest with yourself.

If you're finding yourself to only have "selfish" desires with infinite money, that's really great, because then you are looking at what might considered to be "the dark side of oneself" and then we can rise above this.

I think this question is not only a fun thought-experiment, but also agreat introspective tool to face one own's limitations and genereate new strengths and talents inside yourself! ^^,

In the real world, if you have infinite cash, that means you have an infinite tax liability. That means you pay an infinite amount to IRS and that leaves you with nothing. :>

Well if I have infinite cash. I'll just go on living a simple life, buy what I need, a simple house for a simple happy family. I will not run around abusing it, it will do more harm than good; economy = inflation, self = prone to robbery, kids = kidnapping. I just want to walk the streets, without bodyguards, and no worries.

Money can't buy you happiness but it can give you the
power, time and freedom to do almost anything you please
    when you want to.

Life's a get to not a got to!

So I would give as much as I could to others so they can GET TO
DO WHAT THEY WANT with their lives...

...And not have to compromise their way through life like most others
    out there expect us to.

Infinite cash = Pie in the sky, La la land, unicorns and fairies, nobody here is EVER going to be in that situation so i don't see how it ties into "an important piece of successful internet marketing"

I agree - dreaming big is a problem with many new IMers. They have visions of endless cash flowing into account and sort of the miss the work and thought and planning that goes into getting to that point.

I don't see that dreaming bigger provides anything useful.

With infinite cash, some people would dedicate themselves to "stuff" while others would spend their lives solving problems of others. Don't think I'd want to do either with my life as both lack balance.

I have seen others like James Cameron, (director of Avatar) pay others to design and build a record breaking deep sea sub.

        Not a bad idea?

I personally would develop emergent tech, .

A quick and cheap rover to Mars, to get a glimpse of what is really there in HD, would be one thing on my list!

And other stuff to help the poor.

Obviously the first thing l would do, is get away from this cold weather and go to a tropical beach, and just sit there, for a good part of a week, then spend another week sitting around.

Obviously spend $300,000 and rent out the entire island first!

I may have to read my old Uncle Scrooge comics again, might give me some ideas?

I would give away 0% of it away to charity. What this means is probably trillions of dollars. You cannot spend any portion of infinity. It is mathematically impossible. You cannot divide anything by infinity. Give away 75 trillion away, what percentage do you have left of infinity? 100% I guess if you are a physicist, you can divide infinity to the 10th power by infinity and you are down to infinity to the 9th power but I don't know if we are smart enough to understand the difference. So agin to keep it simple, you cannot spend any percentage of infinity.

The way I see it as an important piece is in the sense that your relationship with money can usually be either very "selfish" (only spend money for your own needs) or both "selfish" and "contributing" (spending money to help the world because you experience a stronger satisfaction knowing you are helping others and not just yourself).

It is only my personal opinion that it is "mature" to have this outlook in life, that you want to contribute to the world with your fortune you have gathered throughout your life. I recently read about a billionaire who has given away millions the last few decades.

And if this is just a myth or not, I don't know, but the Swedish founder of world-known IKEA, Ingvar Kamprad is said to be a really cheap person, not someone who gives away to charity.

Even though he is more successful than me, I would consider him to have a very "childish" or "immature" relationship with money; it's all about him and *bleep* the rest.

Now, I don't know, and it is just a way to look at things, not facts written in stone.

Strange. I would never want an infinite amount of money, because the responsibility would consume my day.

Ten million? I could never spend that much.

I would live where I live, because I decided to live here. The nicest street in a nice town...with great neighbors.

I would maybe travel a little...but it's not my nature to not be productive.

If I really wanted more money, I would simply work harder.

Yeah, this question seems like the "If you didn't actually have to earn money...and you had no responsibility, and everyone waited on you hand and foot, and you were immortal, and you could fly like Superman..." kind of question that means little.

But...you did suck me in, so congrats for that.

          Infinite cash?

The bigger question is what did I do to get infinite cash and where in the heck can I hide from the authorities from around the world who are hunting me down like a rabid dog.

I think that the question everyone is avoiding is, if one person had access to infinite cash, now, he could literally make his currency worthless, by flooding the market with it!!!

If l remember correctly Nazi Germany was going to try something like that with Britain, (high quality forged banknotes) but failed!

There were be a difference with forged notes or real notes. For example, the US dollar is a forged note. Every-time the market is flooded in dollars we have inflation. It is up to the Federal Reserve to try to not create too much inflation otherwise the bankers could not control the world. Most people to not know that the dollar is counterfeit so the currency keeps it's value. If the Fed is not careful, we could end up like Nazi Germany.

                  Dollar is counterfeit???

I take it that you are saying it has been inflated, beyond the gold standard it was initially based on?

So it is a piece of paper that has a perceived value!

While we are on this, you might find this interesting, the US has bought out 1 billion dollar bank notes. A tantalizing goal for criminal forgers, but hard to cash if you need to use a taxi.

This thread reminds of this movie. True he only had $30,000,000 to spend in a month, but close enough!

In some ways I think it would be kind of nice to pretend you only have a few million and do some things for the good of the world but do them in secret. I would hate to be surrounded by fair weather friends who only like me for my money. I know it would be impossible to hide completely so having a few million would probably cover most things you would buy yourself (and you can always say you invest wisely if it's a large purchase).

I would love to donate new equipment to hospitals, for example, instead of money. Then I know the money is well spent. I hate some "charities" where most of the money never gets to where it is supposed to go.

I also like the idea of donating directly into the hands of responsible people who need items and some cash. That would not stop me from donating to a reputable charity with stipulations that the money could only be used for certain things and not skimmed off to administrative expenses, particularly the ones where the head admins are quite well recompensed for their "services". I'm not donating so their salaries and perks can be greatly enhanced. Some are far too well compensated as it is.

I've got lots more to say, but I think it's enough already.
