You could tell the cover up began with the radio call to the dispatcher.

Good grief, they shot the guy six times.

I guess the homeowner never fired a shot?

Sal - You're right and have said that before. I hadn't realized just how common this has become until recently.

In 1980 there were 3000 "no knock" police entries in homes - times when the door is simply broken down and they charge in.

In 2011 - last statistic available - there were 80,000 of these "no knock" violent entries into private homes!!!

A security guy in an interview said he traces the growth back to the equipment provided by feds to local law enforcement that began in the 90's (I think he said 90's).

Instead of standard issue police equipment, now many of the local cops have full SWAT gear, high powered guns and all the bells and whistles stuff you can find. He said once you are all "suited up" the mentality becomes more military and less
      'protect and serve'.

He said they are being taught on these break-ins to shoot the dogs first...which is pretty stupid as all that gear should protect them long enough to tell a vicious dog from a more likely family pet barking to alert family.

80,000? And far too many break-ins at the wrong apartment, wrong house, wrong street, wrong person. He's written a book about it - good description on Amazon Amazon.com: A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State (9781590799758): John Whitehead, Nat Hentoff: Books

Wonder if he got the title from this quote:

"We've become a nation of wolves, ruled by sheep.
Owned by swine, overfed, and put to sleep.
While the media elite declare what to think,
I'll be wide awake, on the edge, and on the brink."
