| ![]() The Peel P50 was released in 1962 and 1965 by the British Peel Manufacturing Company. It was released in an ill fated micro car class and cost only $400 US at the time. Currently the smallest car available for the North American market is the Smart Car by Mercedes-Benz. The Peel P50 was officially entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the smallest production car ever. |

How completely ugly and dangerous. Recently there are statistics to prove what I have always known, that small 'econo-boxes' are very dangerous in an accident - no protection. That is why I drive a nice big American luxury gas guzzler. You are safer in an accident and besides you can't afford gas so leave it parked. Very safe. |

| http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/14/au...s/14crash.html This article was what I was referring to, and they were testing 3 models that are twice the size of this little guy. He doesn't look as ugly in that last picture. Parking would definitely be easier! |

Who needs a place to park it? Just get out of it, slip it into your pocket and go on your way! If you leave at the curb, someone else is liable to take off with it.

LOL, Star. You reminded me of one of my 'hair brained' (purplehaze) ideas (always something impossible/not feasible): Have a car that you can collapse and fold up to park it. No rocket in the pocket, but it would allow more cars to be parked. This little car is starting to look cute to me. When you say the 'car key' I could really see a key sticking out of the trunk (or where the trunk would be if there was one) - as in a wind-up toy. My next idea is a self-washing car. I have the dirtiest car in the world I think. If I wash it, it will rain. I have to take it somewhere to have it washed.... someday... The spiders love my car and the exterminator says they are attracted to the color which is 'granite metallic' (fancy for shiny dirt). Spideys have intricate webbing on all side-view mirrors, wheel wells, etc. I have to get into the car with a stick. |

Actually, ghost, Honda came out with the Honda 600 sedan (as well as a coupe version) back in 1970. I used to have a '72 Honda 600 sedan, and it wasn't very long. It was shorter than the Honda Civic when it first came out. It didn't weigh much, either. My buddies would have fun when I was in the bowling alley. They'd come out, pick it up and leave it turned between the parked cars on either side of it. I'd come out ready to go home and would have to wait for the other cars to move so I could leave! But mine got 50 miles per gallon and could zip along at 75 mph... even though it sat on 12" rims. Here's what mine looked like. It was the same color as this red one, looked exactly like it, only mine had the extra bars on the front and rear bumpers just like the front bumper of this one. The gear shift, by the way, doesn't stick up out of the floorboard, it hangs from the bottom of the dashboard...wish I still had mine! (sob!) Here's a closer look at one: (this one sounds like the engine has a bad bearing!) |

I'm 6'3 and im twice the weight of that 'car' and it only does 38mph. If I got hit in something like that, the jaws of life wouldnt be needed, just a straw and a sponge

Star69- that is great! I think we have the same friends! My CRX was carburetored and got 38 mpg, but it did to 100mph. Yup- sure packed some power. The other CRX's that were fuel-injected had even more power and better mpg. I really dont think they came a long way since then as far as mpg- atually, I think they went downhill a little. |

Oh, this is just mean, ridiculous, stupid, irrational, unconscionable, ill-refined, imbecilic, uncalledfor, out of bounds and just plain nuts! |

Where's the button that folds it up? Amazing that it was built in the 60's. Everything old is new again. Thanks for the laughs everyone.
