"It Depends..." + How to Ask Better

That is THE answer to almost EVERY general internet marketing question.

What's the best membership software?

Well, it depends on....

What's the best way to get traffic to my site?

Well, it depends on....

How can I get more people to buy more stuff?

Well, it depends on....

Who should I be following and listening to?

Well, it depends on....

Specific answers cannot be given to general questions.

So to get the most out of this forum or even a coaching program you may be part of... ask better questions.

How?

Be specific without sharing non-essentials.

Bad Question: What should I give away on my landing page? I'm just getting started and everyone says I should have one. I don't really understand it. Neither does my mom. I'm 37 and live in her basement.

Good Question: My niche is frogs. Specifically frog recipes. Frog eaters of the forum, which would be a better giveaway? A top ten list of the most delicious frogs or a video showing a sauteed frog leg shish-ka-bob creation?

The more specific you are, the better answers you'll get.

I agree, it does generally help with answering a posters question if they are more specific. However, this isn't ALWAYS the case. Such as the question "What do you find is the best way to get traffic to your site".. is is simply asking a general question and finding out other members' ways of generating traffic.

However if the question is about YOUR site, then yes.. it would be better to be as specific as poss ("I am doing x, y and z and in such and such way, but it doesn't seem to be working.. why not?" etc.)

Good info in your post. Sometimes though, being a newbie, it is hard to know what questions to ask and, therefore, what info to provide. Maybe your post will help to clarify communications on both ends.

You mean you can't answer "how do I start a business" in one simple paragraph? GASP.

One of the things that drives me right out of the main forum - where incidentally this post should be instead of in the bar - is people who ask questions that encompass college course dimension answers. Questions that general make me soooo suspect that the person is actually fishing for someone to "help" do it for them.

It also makes me feel that the asker, if honest, hasn't a bat's chance in hell of having enough general knowledge to start a business, and no matter what the hype says - you need SOME knowledge and skills to start and run a business unless you have enough money to just pay others to do it for you from top to bottom. It's a BUSINESS...get it?
