I just finished the download of some software in which I make logos. Personally I like the all Adobe products because it is cool and easy to use. But yet not understand the difference between the vector logo and other logo. Is it just the shiny 3D image in vector or is there more? Also want to know that Gimp be able to make vector logos? or just Photoshop can make vector logo.

Thanks.

Vector means, it can be scaled to any size you want without loss of detail, although smart objects can do similar tricks!

Photoshop can't do vector objects, you would need to buy Adobe illustrator for that one, and as for Gimp, being able to do vector objects, l wouldn't count on it, but you never know?

Vector images are composed of straight lines and bezier curves (as opposed to pixels which are a component of "raster" images) which carry a mathemetical protocol so that the computer can redraw them with the same precision as they are reduced or increased in size.

Photoshop can handle vector images however it's only on a very primitive level.

Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard for vector illustration.

Like already said a vector image won't have a loss in quality when scaling the image, a 1x1 inch image will have the same quality If it's scaled up to 100x100 feet.

A vector image is a text file which is basically all numbers, you can open a vector image in any text editor & see the numbers, change the numbers, change the scale. Not saying you should edit a vector image with a text editor, just pointing out the reason a vector image will always be a high quality image regardless of how large/small you scale the image (it's all numbers, not pixels).

If you need to create vector images for free use Inkscape, plenty of tutorials on Youtube.
