This is similar to a topic I wrote earlier concerning private tutors in Hong Kong. The idea is to package them as celebrities so that their images appear everywhere on buildings and buses.

My sister and her husband spent 2011 in South Korea teaching English, they did not make Millions but they got paid very well.
Also, she told me the kids over there are hungry for knowledge, take their lessons seriously and are super disciplined, unlike the west where school seems to be a joke for most kids...

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

The truth is that most of these "celebrity tutors" make their name by accurately predicting questions that may come up in exams. This is not real learning by most people's standards. The existing systems in Asia stifles creativity. In fact, they are trying to move towards a more Western model.

I can appreciate this, but the current Western model doesn't really value education at all. I guess I'm mainly talking about the U.S., where the only celebrities associated with schools are athletes.

That said, I don't think the answer is to try to return to an outdated model of rote memorization. That's just part of the system designed to create conformists who spend their lives in factories or cubicles. We need a model of education that encourages the natural love of learning.

This is not going to come from bureaucrats who only know how to put together standardized programs and figure out ways to raise and spend money.

One guy or whatever created a little test. They made that NATIONAL! Nearly EVERY student in major colleges takes that test. They also make TONS of "aids" for it! Apparently, they ALSO make the test for LAWYERS in the US and they are ALSO about THE biggest self tutoring provider for it! They NOW even run a COLLEGE!

$4million? CHICKENFEED! I saw the USA twaddle about this. They make it sound like a TEACHER gets paid that much. BULL! He is a MARKETER! GRANTED, he markets courses, etc..., but it is NOT, as they imply, that the government is paying for a fantastic teacher.
