My website is worth $702.000,-- Yeah Right!

Or at least that is what one of the many: "Your website is worth websites" tell me.

It's off course pure speculation, and often not even near the real number. Also the numbers go from $85.000 till $702.000 and almost every number in between.

What is your experiences with this kind of websites, did you ever find one that is really close to the truth or did you find extreme calculations that told you that Facebook had a value of 230$.

So tell us, what is your website "worth"?

I sold a website on flippa once for a few grand they have a formula for working out what the site is worth. I believe it's your profit margin multiplied by 24 months or so but I might be speaking under correction here best you google or ask some expert. Those site's that calculate the sites value is BS ,I don't know how they come to their figures.Once it calculated my sites value to 4k but it was only worth 2k. I sold it for 1.6k :/ .

I hate when people post these websites in their flippa auctions. Some guy posted one in his NLN .com auction. I forget the domain. It was the worst sounding one ever, but he had a reserve of $17,000 with 0 traffic and no website.

Nice name, style, and concept, but NOT into the hundreds, or even tens, of thousands of USD.

I think the value of a website is very subjective, and all the calculating websites have really no idea how much a website is really worth.

But it is just for fun.

Well, as far as I am concerned, the value of a site, to OTHERS is based on:

    1. Is the name famous enough or obvious enough for the content?
    2. Is it easy to type in?
    3. Is there programming behind it to power the site, and add features visitors would want?
    4. Is it styled well, with reasonable content above the fold?
    5. Does it have customers that feel good about the site?
    6. Does it have a way to communicate with them on a push basis?(Like email, address, or phone number?)
    7. What tie-ins can you get?(Affiliate or business)
    8. Does it help your visitors in a way that benefits YOU?
    9. How much do YOU get?(Typically, last I heard, you want to ask about 3 times what you are getting in a year. You can try to get more, of course, and the better you rank elsewhere, the more likely someone will actually pay it.)
    10. ALSO, the time a visitor stays, and how deep they go are good factors.

The problem is that a lot of that stuff can be faked, or is subjective. You can't program it. BTW I don't mention hits, because they are virtually worthless! You want VISITORS that use the site, not a lot of fetching things that may never be seen by a person.

Absolutely, one time I got an offer to advertise on a website with 6.000 "visitors" a day. He even had the stats. When I checked him on Alexa his rank was 4.000.000 plus. So I asked for the stats. 6.000 hits a day was less as 150 real visitors a day.

Has was in shock himself, I was the first who explained him the difference between hits and visitors and many advertisers already took space from him for 500$ a month.

The real value of a website, has some many different options to calculate.

A websites value is whatever you make a month times 13 (months). If you make $5 a month, your site is worth $65

  • A lot of these sites are bad for telling the correct values...

    Lol...

One of my blogs is worth $33,000. They are actually accurate... in terms of what I would sell it for right now, but that's due to factors they obviously couldn't get their hands on.
