For those who cant be bothered to read the whole thing but want solutions.

  • For Mac users try: OmniDiskSweeper, a free program that breaks down exactly which files take up the most space.
  • For PC users try WinDirStat, a disk usage statistics viewer and cleanup tool.
Hope it helps.

Always wanted to know why.

Thanks for this! Anyway, one of the reasons that I find that slows down the performance of my computer is the software that I installed on my PC that use a lot of space on my hard disk.

hahah lol. I dont play minecraft anyways.

But yes investing in an upgrade of RAM does help.

But my IT guy says if your computer is 32bit and not 64bits, it also affects the performance.

32bit will not fully utilize your RAM.
      64bit will.

      Or something along that line.

As usual, im not into tech. hahaha

If your system is 32 bit, your computer will only recognize 3 GB of RAM even if you install 4-8 GB of ram. While 64 bit detects all 8 GB from a single slot. So 64 bit is better but 32 bit is known for compatiblity.
        Just for knowledge..

Thanks for the info! My PC is 8 years old and basically slows down to snails pace after a couple of days of being on consecutively.

This is because the system continuously use memory to cache up programs. you're cache memory gets filled with temporary programs that needs to be closed or refreshed by rebooting.

Another problem is memory leaking, when the utilization of memory is not properly done by the programs as we start and shut them up randomly without refreshing the system (reboot).

No, no, no. This is so far from the truth.

People must understand that downloading and using yet more software to speed up your PC is ridiculous when trying to speed up your PC, I don't care if God itself built that clean-up software!

I have no problems with my laptop and that is for one simple reason.

I don't run much software and crap on it, I run and use what I need only. I run all of the OS and security updates as well as defrag and regularly delete shit I don't need.

Also, having bookmarks and all sorts of other tools running on your browser slows it down so I only keep what I need yet again.

The real reason your computer slows down is because its running more and more processes and tasks that its memory cant handle. Simple as that. Adding yet more to that does the exact opposite.

The only other reason for your computer slowing down is that the hardware is f***ed. For example over heating... in which case software wont do a damn thing to fix.

Here is a real way to speed up your PC.

Dont download shit you don't need. Simple. Once you download a tool or a software that you need, get rid of it you don't need to use it frequently as its clogging up your hard drive and could be using processing memory while in standby.

When ever downloading things from the net read everything carefully, most of the time they pre-select add ons for you such as added software or applications, automatic updates via the web, browser add ons etc.

Think of a car. You want to speed it up. You have two options and only two options no matter what anyone else says.

Option #1 upgrade, buy new hardware basically... turbo charger, larger engine, air kit, diff etc.

Option #2 make your car lighter and maintain it. Pull out all of the seats, spare wheel, water, dash, stereo, everything! Then give it a good service and your good to go.

Same thing with a computer. Either you upgrade all your hardware or you speed it up by lightening the load and making sure all the updates and regular maintenance has been done.

However after a certain amount of time it is absolute that any computer will slow down over time, that's just normal for two reasons time will always take its toll on the hardware, always. And if your connected to the net and are upgrading parts of your OS, browser and other applications then by default you are using up more space and more memory.

THanks for that and i want to clarify for all those people that have laptops, dont put your laptop in charge when you are using it, it will just overheat and break material components in side it with time.
