Will Obama overturn the Samsung ban?

Note: First of all, let this not be an Obama-bashing thread. Keep your love or hatred for him aside and let us discuss this issue.

He overturned the Apple import ban when Samsung won the case. Will he do it this time? I don't know what the technicalities of the patents violated in both the cases are, but if banning Apple products was anti-competition, banning Samsung products would be too.

In another news, Apple is losing its market share to Android devices.

Well, I have to say. I never liked Jobs. I have read *****REAL***** info about the company, and seen it since the mid 1970s. When jobs got control the first time, he GUTTED the company of talent. Prior to that, I rally thought it would take off. They finally came out with a decent product after that, but forgot their philosopy and customers. It FLOPPED. Later they came out with one closer to their customers, but still meager, considering, and it kind of took off. To this day I wonder how it might have been if that talent were there.

MANY said it would die. I stood my ground and said "Let's just watch...". Yeah, Apple has made a ******LOT****** of mistakes. Some GLARING! Like the LISA(Named after Job's daughter!). What were they thinking!?!?!? And what of the computers that were going to have covers that were like every color of the rainbow, etc? It is like they thought the crazy styles of the 70s would last. Or selling printers at over 16 times the market average without trying to reduce the price!

Ironically, the later products deviated from their philosophy of, if not open, at least expandable. ALSO, they were compatible.

Still, it isn't a crap company, and is more responsible for the microcomputer boom today than perhaps about any company out there. They were office computers before most offices knew they could have computers. They seem like childish toys now, but back then, they really were sci fi come to life.

Although I have almost always been an IBM PC user, I have to admit that Apple was an innovator and I think people would be surprised to learn some of the things that they seemed to do first, and then MS ran with their idea and made it seem like it was theirs - and was/is today.

If I am not mistaken, (and Steve correct me if I am wrong) the whole concept of GUI - and hence mice and Windows is a MAC/Apple concept. (GUI = graphical user interface). Relevant to that is my client uses a MAC and he has none of the issues I have constantly with MS Windows and MS Office...

I am not sorry about what Obama did because another thing most people don't realize is how we GAVE AWAY all the technology and etc that was actually 'invented' in the US - and with 'clones' etc., mostly all 'foreign' made and of course much cheaper, it really has killed so much of the business we should have in this industry. Fair is fair and sharing is where it is at, but we can't just lay down and die like so many of our industries.

True. But, Apple hasn't come up with anything innovative in a long time. It has depended on aggressive marketing and building a cult around its products. Most Apple products are inferior to cheaper ones in the market. They are just prettier. Or seem to be.

I mean, come on. Apple mentioned in the iPhone 5 ad that they have redesigned the camera lens. Seriously? And look at all the patent violations they have filed - Slide to unlock, rounded corners. Why were these patent granted in the first place?

Xerox came up with GUI. Apple stole it from them and then Microsoft launched it before Apple, as far as I've recall having read.

What are the instances of GIVING AWAY technology that you mention? A lot of the technology was open sourced but that was the wish of the authors and not many of them like Apple.

The tech industry in the US isn't dying. Most big shot companies in the industry are still in the US, except for a few like Samsung and Sony. Most innovations are still coming from the US, but not from Apple I'm afraid.

Apparently, xerox created it, and Apple was the first viable company to run with it. Still, this is debatable because the concept had been around for decades prior. ALAS, good graphic devices were VERY expensive. The APPLE II was likely the best, for its cost, color computer of its day. The atari came later and actually had a special processor for it.

That's right - I knew there was something about Xerox in 'historical facts', but I didn't think it was GUI. I stand corrected.

Then there are stories (also which I can only remember fragments) of programs like VisiCalc - I think that was the first PC spreadsheet - Lotus123 took the ball and ran and then it became MS Excel - (and the story I read long ago was how the author of VisiCalc got some paltry sum like under $1000 for this great innovation that I am sure he is kicking himself for today seeing how widely used it has been since Lotus.

I am all for open source. I am not for unfair advantage by cost undercutting - but I guess I am all over the place on that concept because I always tell people who ask abou WSOs and then balk at having to give a cheaper price than regular.

    I say - would you rather sell 2 @ $50 or 10 at $25 ($100 vs $250)

So I guess we have just been beat at our own game when it comes to technology. It feels much better as 'open source'. I wasn't talking software though I was talking hardware and electronics. For example IBM (the "PC") - and the million clones from everywhere. (and btw I am the first one to appreciate clones because I never could afford a 'real' IBM anything.
