What Was The First Song You Remember Hearing?

I somehow read two thread titles at the same time and that is what the question looked like. That kind of intrigued me. The first song I remember hearing was "Happy Birthday To You."

Wow, timely question...yesterday I had conversation with my 6yr old girl, asking her if she remembers...a certain song (from a toddler learning video)...thinking to myself...I think that's the first song she ever heard....so she says I think I remember a lot of the words...but my favorite song was the one that goes ...(then she proceeded to hum the notes ( its a Beethoven piece). and she says I remember that one because its my favorite.

Anyway I was pretty impressed with her.

I'm not sure what MY first heard song was...I do remember my first FAVORITE song

I was 11 years old and flying on a jetliner with my Dad when I heard it, it is what caused me to forever love R&B music

My son, 3, likes Beethoven, too. He's drawn to classical music and hasn't taken to rock music though I have made attempts to introduce it to him. Even tried playing a video of Kiss (since little boys often like it. Can't say it featured in my childhood), but he pressed stop and said, "I don't like clowns! Scary."

Let me think here for a moment, the first song I ever heard!

OK I got it, I'm pretty sure I heard this before I came into this world!

    "Every sperm is sacred"

  • I am going to ignore obvious childhood songs and skip to the very first mainstream song I remember hearing.

My Dad used to sing me to sleep with it.

Wow... I haven't thought about that in years. Brought a tear to my eye. I should call my Daddy. I miss him.

This is kind of a tough one because the early 60s, when I started listening to
rock and roll, is kind of a blur to me. Plus, as a small kid, I remember having
these children's records that I am sure I had before 1964 when I saw the
      Beatles on Ed Sullivan.

I would say my first song was one of these.

I Want To Hold Your Hand - Beatles

The Little Tin Soldier And The Little Toy Drum - Danny Stevens & The Four
Sergeants with the Peter Pan Orchestra (video below)

When The Saints Go Marching In - Eek, Zeek and Squeek, The Merry Mice (
was probably actually Alvin and the Chipmunks)

Well, i never tried to think about songs. The times when I could tell you the book and page where I learned something, estimate the cost of something VERY closely, etc... are all but gone. I remeber things like this by nearby events that I DO know. I remember some popular when I was traveling with my father. I likely heard the earliest one when I was about 3. I like classical music too, but I am not even sure when I first heard ride of the valkeries. and it is probably one classical piece NOBODY could ever mistake for another song, and nearly everyone has heard at least a part of.

NOPE, in the 60s, you were more likely to hear THIS on the radio:

Unfortunately, this is the first song I remember hearing:

Careful. This song will eat your brain.

Well, I can truthfully say that was NOT the first song I heard. I don't know if I ever understood the idea of people dressing up as dumb animals. NO offense to animals, THEY were just dumb ones.

When you copy the link, don't copy the https:// part and just paste the rest.

Didn't help, Thom. It's weird. I do the exact same thing every time. Sometimes videos embed. Other times they don't.

Doubt it was the first song I ever heard, but when I was very young I had a jack-in-the-box that played Pop Goes the Weasle.

Outside of stuff we used to learn as kids, like Itsy bitsy spider and stuff, I would say it's Amazing Grace. My Dad's mother used to play the piano and was an absolutely holy rollers jihad Christian.

I had the same problem for a while Dan, just coping the link from www. and using the Insert Link tab was all that fixed it. Frustrating though when the videos don't show.

I did that both ways: using the Insert Link tab and just pasting the link in the body of the post. Strange.

          Dan,

When using the insert link tab, copy & paste the url and then shift to the left to see if there is a double http or an https.

If the http is in there twice, the url will not work at all such as the link in your post, if there is an "https", just remove the "s" and you're good to go.

See, that worked. I usually can just direct link without using the insert link tab. However, it's quite possible I'm just losing my mind.

I don't really remember the first song I ever heard, it was probably Rock-a-bye Baby, lol!

But my dad told me the first song I ever sang. He used to take me for walks through the neighborhood when I was just a little thing. He told me when I was three, we were walking and I grabbed his hand and started singing this.

I imagine that if I could sing it, I also heard it.
