Do You Ever Relative Travel?

In his retirement years, my father (RIP) traveled far and wide to meet distantly (like really really distantly( related relatives. His relative travels took him to such places as North Carolina, Bahamas, Jamaica, China, Italy, Ireland. I used to think that was bizarre, but now I can see that it has a narrative and theme to help decide where to go and who to visit. The funny thing is he was overwhelmingly welcomed like he was, well, a long lost relative.

I often travel to see my relatives often during the holidays and the end of the year. I must admit that it is ritual not too many keep. Guess that is why we are different as a people.

My dad used to travel to see relatives. And these relatives took him to see even more relatives. I think it is something people grow into as they grow older.

There are three main reasons why people are traveling far away to see their relatives.

Because they want to see them.
Because they need something - if nothing else, a free bed so they don't need to pay for a hotel room.
And of course, there are those family 'must go' trips.

I visit my relatives when I'm passing through someone's city or when I really want to see someone. I usually only stay for a cup of coffee and move on.
Most of my relatives visit me when they don't feel like paying a hotel room.
And we are all traveling to see each others for weddings, funerals and other important events.

We have the tradition of having a family get together from time to time and we always make sure we celebrate the holidays with relatives. It doesn't necessarily have to be on the day of the holiday but we make sure we are able to celebrate it together. I get to see relatives from far away when they decided to take a vacation and will just come to our house to see us along the way.
