Jesse Jackson Jr. to Grab $8,700 Per Month in Disability, Plus Pension In Prison
"Convicted Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL) is scheduled to receive $8,700 per month in government disability pay, as well as a partial federal pension of $45,000 (a total of about $150K per year). That generous $8,700 in disability comes thanks to Jackson's sudden development of a "mood disorder" as the federal government began looking to indict him. Jackson, who was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, had no history of mental illness during his prior 17 years in Congress."

    Since when does disability pay more than most people earn? I'm so tired of these crooks.

        What's really sick is jackson, jr applied for disability and reportedly "cut a deal" where he would get disability and then retire from his elected seat.

        That took a couple months....and we have wounded veterans waiting two years to be approved for disability pay. They certainly don't get $8700 a month.

        Things like this make me wonder if the core is rotten.

          The disability program administration needs to be redone. It is a farce. Most are automatically denied on first application,and then any disability lawyer you hire gets 25% of any back payments he gets for you. And I found none willing to discuss a case before you've been denied.

          Once again government in cahoots with private sector.

    This is why you have to recall/impeach. Otherwise they roll over us like steamrollers and get lucrative pensions for it. Those go away when the criminals are booted - not if they are arrested and not if they lose an election. "Get it" yet, America?

    First; How do we know this is true? I'd need to read it (or hear it) from another source, a credible one.

    There is more to the story. There always is.

    Of course, we should get all worked up and get our pitchforks and torches...before we hear another thing. After all, we're mad now.

    We've been reading about his mental disorders for a few years now, at least.


    Maybe we could wait to hear a tad more before we get our panties all in a bunch.

    Here's a career plan for young people:

    Study hard, get good grades, get good at sports if you can. Do a lot of volunteering. Get a degree from a top university, get good grades.

    Participate in politics, be it working on campaigns, or getting elected in student government. Keep on volunteering for good works.

    Make a list of the highest paying corporations. Find out which invest in lobby groups in Washington D.C. Figure out which stances and policies they favor in government.
    Run for a government position with a platform that matches said corporations legislative wish-list. Use every means possible to network likely campaign donors who would like your positions.
    If you get elected, do everything you can to make sure to push and supoort that wishlist legislation. Be sure to still volunteer in good works for your public image. Smile a lot, kiss babies. Vote on everything in support of said corporations wishlist. Be big on feel-good platitudes that can inspire conservatives and liberals alike (the more abstract, the better). Volunteer in a soup kitchen, show great empathy (you don't have to really mean it).

    Run for higher and higher positions, getting sponsorship from your target market, votes from your constituents (who are usually too busy and tired to read the fine print of legisltaion). Do this long enough to ensure a comfortable pension. Whatever you do, don't send out tweets with revealing clothing or sexting and whatnot on social media. However reprehensible your voting record might be, anything publicly sexual will generate the most grief for ambitious people aiming for a comfortable nest-egg of golden eggs.

    Once you lose an election or just resign, you'll have already secured a lucrative pension for life and good jobs in the higher-paying private sector.

    Live the good life. Sure, continue broadcasting feel-good lip-service on all matters that can't effect your comfortable income. It can help you land highly-paid public speaking engagements.

        The FIRST instance of this "illness" came when Jackson, Jr disappeared from Congress....less than two weeks after the arrest of the man who offered Blagojevich $1 million to give Jr the Congressional seat.

        Jackson, Jr was openly under investigation for fraud due to use of massive amount of campaign funds to finance his luxurious personal life (which is what he and his wife were convicted of).

        After weeks of absence his doctors statement said he was suffering from "exhaustion" - then later the word was "mood disorder" and doctors said he had received "intensive treatment" and "will make a full recovery".

        I expect the "recovery" will come after his light sentence is served - and after he's hired as a lobbyist by some company at a high salary.

        He lied, cheated, stole - got caught and then played the system and won. A slap on the wrist sentence and money in the bank. That's a creep in my book.

          Kay; A detailed chronology of events that puts things in their proper light...has no place here.

          But there is more to the story, I'm sure. One of the benefits of getting older is to figure out that there is a benefit to waiting until I know more before getting upset.

          And after I know enough.....I don't get upset. Someone getting $150,000 a year for nothing, doesn't hurt me in the least. And I gave up the idea of "Things being fair" a long time ago.

          I'm not saying anyone here is wrong in their statements, it's just my point of view.

            normally it doesn't bother me either. your statement however is a bit dismissive in that it doesn't fully capture what's occurring. we're talking about a corrupt politician convicted of a crime while in, and related to, office. should he be lavishly compensated while imprisoned for work performed in an illegal capacity? i think not

            (we can debate the level of corruption of politics in general as many of us believe it's commonplace, but that's not in play here as this person is convicted and hence a distinction of certainty is made as to him being a criminal)

            I wouldn't care if this was between a private firm and it's employee. But this isn't - the ones on the line are the taxpayers. Interestingly, a majority of the people who would vote AGAINST him are the ones who will continue to finance his lifestyle. The producers, by and large, are not the voter bloc that JJ Jr and his ilk pander to. Yet they are the ones who will be taxed to make his mood better.

            Claude, I usually read your posts because you have a good mind and a good sense of humor. One never knows quite what one will find when you write. However...

            I'm surprised by this, and I have to disagree with you. It doesn't hurt you? Is that all that matters? I contend it hurts everyone, even those who don't pay taxes. The more corruption we allow, the deeper and faster it spreads.

            The only thing necessary for the demise of a country is citizen apathy toward its leaders.

            It's not about what's "fair" in my opinion, it's about right and wrong.

    OK, where is my $3MILLION or so dollars!?!?!?!? I have a mood disorder ALSO! I have for DECADES! HECK, I have considered I may have a healthy helping of anhedonia. I could probably offer up a LOT of proof!

    So why should HE get MILLIONS handed to him on a platter when I have worked so hard and get NOTHING? EVEN if he were telling the truth, he simly doesn't deserve t, ESPECIALLY NOT AS A FELON!
