:confused:Hi! I am new to the world of content writing and have signed up with several sights. One of the brokers I have written a few articles for has requested a W9 tax form. My concern is this form will have my Social Security # on it since I have no TIN #. So far, they are the only broker that has requested this form. With identity theft so prominent, I feel I should check this out. Any helpful input is appreciated. Thanks!

If you're from the US any business who pays someone over $600 (I think is the threshold) has to report it to the gov't so the gov't can make sure you paid taxes on it. It's perfectly normal and legitimate for US companies to do this.

I don't know where you're from, but getting a TIN (or EIN) is free in the US. If you're concerned about the company just get the tax number from the gov't. That's what I did. You might also do your due diligence on the company

If you don't supply the company with an SSN or TIN/EIN chances are you won't be paid for any work you do that carries your earnings beyond the reporting threshold.

Thanks so much! I have checked into them a bit, I will do more. I am new to all aspects of this business and really know absolutely nothing! Does that show? I signed up for this forum after reading the posts and seeing how knowledgable and helpful everyone is. Thanks again for the positive input.
