What Does This Song Mean?

I've always taken this song to be a metaphor for coming up with solutions that cause far more damage and complication than the original problem (aka "committee" or "government" )

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Thunderbird can be a little gullible at times, but I don't know if I'd call him a goat.

It's a nonsense song from the time when gov didn't consider childhood a mental disease. Kinda like Old McDonald was a fun little song for kids when they were learning animal noises - or one that was a chain of events song that we used to sing at camp: Eddy KatchaKutachtory Tosanarytosanam Sammagammawhaky Brown (he fell into a well).

Kids used to be allowed to just have some silliness and fun.

Why does it have to mean anything?

Kids giggle at it - and adults don't understand (or have forgotten) nonsensical fun and the joy kids take in repetitive phrasing.

I just thought it was a fun way to teach kids that if they swallow a fly, don't eat stuff to help get it out because it will come out by itself after about a day and a half.

That song gave me nightmares, l thought how terrible she ate a horse and died!

Or as Sal has hinted, it could be repressed memories, or delusional fantasies linked to eating disorders, and conscious torture of household pets, with a bit of excessive compulsive disorder thrown in with a spattering of ADD!

Half a dozen drugs should fix it!!!!

Well, I don't think it was that traumatic. She did, after all, eat the horsey of her own volition. Much unlike Eddy KatchaKutachtory Tosanarytosanam Sammagammawhaky Brown who:
What a shame, it took so long to say his name that Eddy KatchaKutachtory Tosanarytosanam Sammagammawhaky Brown drowned.

A simple silliness song with the great moral lesson about not being stupid when you name your kid, I guess.

I remember when I was in high school our teacher told us to memorize that poem. I never thought that it is a song back then.
