What Do You Think Of This Singer?

The style, tone, cadence is done by a lot of woman singers in japan, and is somewhat traditional. As for what I think? Not having exposure to the song, or knowing the language, I can't really comment.

I know it's a matter of taste....but that hurts my ears.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

I'm not sure China's First Lady would want to be compared to Japanese singers.

OK, I'm pretty sure the cadence, etc... I did think some of the printed language looked japanese. Sorry. Still.... Then again, it has been a long time since I have looked at the far east in that way. Yeak, the name of the singer and some missing words should have told me it wasn't japan.

I'm not familiar with the music myself, lol. That's the Chinese president's wife, who was already very famous in China as an entertainer before becoming China's first lady.

Speaking of Fran Drescher, that's what Beijing Mandarin sounds like.

Did you get the tones down?

Mandarin is really not so hard to learn. Basque and Finnish would be much harder to learn.

Not yet T-Bird. I think that may be why so many said it was the hardest.
I was demonstrated the tones but in many cases I really did not hear the difference.

At this point I know about 5 words.

When I learned Mandarin, one concept I drummed into my head was, "What is quiet and subtle to Western ears is loud and obvious to Chinese ears." The inverse is true for Chinese people learning English.

It must be an acquired taste and I was unable to acquire it.
It is an acquired taste to be sure, but I am a little surprised by responses here. She actually sings exceptionally well (though the song itself is not my cup of tea). She's beautiful (unlike China's president, lol) and talented with a good heart snd has used her influence to help people.

She may be able to carry a tune, it's the tonal quality of her voice that is grating. It doesn't sound natural to me. It sounds like a falsetto (which I don't like anyway) with a severe nasal condition. It seems like kind of a mocking tone actually, like someone would mouth back to a person who said something they didn't like. Hard to describe.

Funny Dennis, but that is how I describe most American pop star singers.

Might explain why I don't have any stations in my house or car programmed to pop music.

Well, it explains part of it anyway.

I just asked opinions about which one people thought was. I'd say everyone could have their own answer.

English is hard for some people, especially the ones who need a reason for everything. Trying to explain whys about the English language is really difficult for me since 90% of the time I don't actually know the answer.

I think it's that vibrato she does - it seems to fluctuate in and out of tune. Is she supposed to sound like that? It must be a cultural thing.
