Perception At Its Most Vibrant

My perception far from how vibrant human perception can be. My mind is like the lights of Las Vegas. Turn them off and, no doubt, the magnificence of the stars and greater universe will be revealed.

People who constantly seek sensory gratification must do so because they're minds aren't picking up on life's magic, so they over-compensate.

For me, walking with my 3-year-old along a sidewalk is better than any movie with fancy special effects. He stops and stares at ants on a wall and notices spider webs that I don't see at all until I look very closely. He hears the chirping sounds of animals that I wouldn't have otherwise heard and observes how crows interact with each other. Everything must look so vibrant to his young eyes and uncluttered mind.

It really is just astounding that people are so plugged in these days. One of the things I value most is my time alone out in nature with just me and the dog. People just yack incessantly at me about not taking a phone with me - or an ipad or whatever. They don't even seem to understand what it's like to disconnect for awhile. Sad. Very sad - and actually pretty dangerous for their health - both mental and physical. Not only sad, but rather bizarre to talk to people who never disconnect. It's like talking to a wall.

True, take iPhones away and civilization will end???

But true we can get bogged down, by all this IM crap, and if we don't smell the roses, then sometimes life will throw one at us....

As an example, l went outside the house to enjoy the sun, etc, and noticed a large African Parrot, (they are a large bird, the size of an eagle, and have a bright red body which blends into green, etc) a beautiful bird, and l saw one from about 5 meters on a branch.

Then something unexpected happened, one of them flew almost at me and perched about 2 metres in front of me, l thought this is cool, and then a female, (reverse coloration) flew alone side, this one. :p

After that they stared at me for a good 5 minutes, (obviously hoping for some crumbs). But l had nothing and they eventually flew off.

Obviously used to being fed, because they are such beautiful birds!

So, true l understand the IM cave mentality, but occasionally it is good to look around!

Out here it's hummingbirds, Shane. I almost smacked one once - it was a baby and so tiny that I thought it was a bee buzzing around me. I saw it was actually a little bird just in time to not swat it. It was the first time I ever saw a baby hummingbird.

Other outdoor thrills - one of my website members came up from CA this weekend so I took him to the Ochoco mountains to dig some agate. There's a springs right up the road from the outcrop and I took a bunch of glass cider jugs to fill up with this water. It is so pure it tastes like melted snow - no chemicals whatsoever - just a few natural minerals. Most people don't know the taste of real water anymore. It's the most wonderful experience drinking it that you will ever have. Once you have it - you will miss it when you don't.

I completely agree with you TB!

It was like that with my little ones and now, with my grand-little ones. My three year old granddaughter discovering a large grasshopper and jumping with it across the yard, giggling and curls bouncing the whole way is such a delight to watch.

My four year old grandson walking this way and that as he watches the color spectrum in the dew drops reflecting from the sun as he moves at every angle to capture every color possible, then comes over and tells me that the moon must make rainbows at night, and because he was asleep and didn't get to see it, they left him little drops of it all over the yard so he could know they were there. Then asking me if he could have a cup to collect them and have a glass of rainbow water to keep. Too funny, too cute.

Then there is my oldest granddaughter hearing a dove coo, mimicking it's call as best she can and the look of absolute amazement come over her face when she thinks it answers her back. She'll stand or sit for quite awhile just conversing with it, lol!

And I'm sure you know that nature is one of my favorite places to be as I believe I have described many scenes that I enjoy over the years here. Life is indeed majestic and awe inspiring when you view it through the eyes of a child and when you do take the time to enjoy it when you're all grown up, too.

Very well said, TB! We went to the zoo once with the family. I had second thoughts of coming but just went with them since I don't go out that much. I actually had more fun than the kids. I realized I needed to go out more.

The world is never as magical as seen through a child's eyes. It's a wise parent who allows his child uncluttered time to explore and enjoy and examine the natural world around him.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

        Hummingbirds, yep, another beautiful bird!

We have a Kingfisher that hovers like your hummingbird, although apart from a blue streak, not a visually impressive bird!

I live about 5 km's from a national park, so l occasionally get some impressive birds paying me a visit.

I have seen a tree full of Kara....., (can't remember the full name, but they are another large jet black bird with a white streak) and endangered, but l have seen the occasional flock, which is good.

I have also seen a bush full of parrots, the multicolored ones, tourists mainly see, (Rainbow Laurakeets, if l remember correctly) but could only get a metre to watch them before they did a runner!

If you visit Queensland's, Gold Coast, they will stand on your head while eating. I did that when l was younger, but wasn't crazy about their spiky claws!

This is the main reason I love my rock and gem hunting so - keeps the attention sharp on details. You notice everything (have to). Wildlife, plants, geology (especially), sky for weather. Even when out with a group, you will wander off on your own, of course, but when you run into the others or sit at the camp, everyone is absorbed in the beauty of the sky, the views, the flames of the campfire, the smells.

What is REALLY a treat - is when you get to take kids on their first rock hunting adventure! I'm not much of a "kid" person.......but immensely enjoy the privilege of taking a kid out for the first discovery of how artistic geology is. Fabulous experience (and I get to give them back to their parents when we're done:rolleyes:).
