Tell me what are your top 10 most hated or overused words of all time? Words that sometimes you see them you just look away or want to vomit(P.S. Whoever is a husband, it might not be a good idea to put "wife" on the list )

Mine are:

1. guarantee
2. article
3. marketing
4. PPC
5. economy
6. depression
7. high
8. quality
9. content
10. can't

I'm interested in finding out yours! Also feel free to explain why next to a word if you must. I put can't because too many people say I "can't" do it. It's so overused!

What is your top 10 list?

Try this one: "back in the day..."

I HATE that! Back in the day, huh? What day? Last Tuesday? Or was it Friday? Which day exactly was that?

It's got to be one of the dumbest sayings!

I detest 'at the end of the day...'
Also don't like 'you get me?' and 'you know what I'm saying'

The next is very UK specific one...

anyone who ends an expression to indicate someone was going on and on about a topic the statement

      'rah-rah-rah'.

My 20 year old niece uses that expression. I just look at her puzzled and think 'god what happend to the english language?'

    'like'

nothing irritates me more than a person that uses like for every other word in their sentences.

or people who drop their t's when they speak

or people that end every sentence with inflection that makes it sound like a question

Yep, there are a couple of common usage phrases I have a problem with. Thing is, they weren't upside down when I was younger. They are a product of the last 20 years, or so.

    1. "I could care less," when they mean, "I couldn't care less." If you could care less, it must be somewhat important to you.

    2. "You have to take the good with the bad," when they mean, "You have to take the bad with the good." If you're in it for the bad, you should be complaining when it gets good.

Pretty stupid when you think about it.

      devastated....!

What on earth is going on nowadays that whenever something minor goes wrong, people are 'devastated'..... excuse me, but this word is just sooo abused.

      absolutely..!

Remember when it seemed that every answer to a question, especially to TV interviewees and salespeople, was prefaced with "Absolutely! and....."

      axsed...!

What is going on with people no longer able to speak English.... I asked....

        "killer"

GAWD! I hate that word in marketing. It's so immature to say "killer this" or "killer that".

I can hear a teenager using it to talk about the latest video game graphics ... but a business owner using it in a product title or in copy?

Another is using "ah" or "um" everything other word in a sentence ... it's pretty common around where I live. It's like they have to hunt for every single word they use in a sentence. It's bizarre I tells ya! :p

    "awesome"
    "absolutely"

    over-used.

"no problem" - used in place of 'you are welcome' when someone says 'thank you' - who said anything about a problem? It makes it seem like they were being imposed upon and did something under duress...

'i know' - i ve come across people who use this in every sentence, and it actually irritates me.

        "That's what I'm talking about"....repeated ad nauseum

If you were talking chances are I know what you were talking about....If I don't know, then, no - I don't know what you are talking about. Further, I probably don't give a crap.

"the kind of person I am" - by the time you say this, I usually have it figured out

"ax" for "ask" - it's a three letter word. How hard is that?

The only phrase in IM that is like nails on blackboard for me is "who else wants to...."

Doesn't really annoy but I'm noticing it more and more...

It's a phrase so may not be exactly what you mean...

As used numerous times on this forum....

''I can't believe you didn't price it higher''

        LOL

    Two that I hate are:

"leaving money on the table" - used (overused) in IM sales letters

"exactly" - used in conversation when someone agrees with what was just said

  • "Epic!"

    "Riding the fail train!"

And just anything that makes it sound like they don't actually know what the words they're speaking mean:

"All intensive purposes" - umm, no.

I used to know this guy that would say "that was lol", which he thought meant it was cool. Like he'd watch the footy, and whenever someone did something good, he would yell out "lol!" like he was a schoolgirl.

This is kind of different - but people who go out of their way to WrIt LiEk THiS. I saw a mother at the library doing that kind of jazz on her Facebook page, setting a great example for her daughter next to her, haha.

Or how about when people repeat back what you just said, but as a question.

You: "I just bought a new car!!!!!!"
Them: "You bought a new car??"

No, I was just saying it as a joke.

    Cheers
    -Nick

    "LOL"

OOOOver used and I am embarassed to say I am one of the guilty ones.

say hahahaha heehehee heheheheh yuk yuk yuk teehee giggle giggle

and I can't stand it when people keep saying 'ok? or 'you know'' after everything.

special hate on 'like' - particularly when I hear teenagers doing it with that look that says, I am so cool because it's like I can't quite make a statement because everything is 'like' something. you know like what i mean it's like so gnarly, like gag me with a spoon.
