My Son, 3, Sure Eats A Lot

I am astounded by the quantity of food my son consumes. He's eating 3 times what his mommy eats, and probably twice as much as I eat. He's not fat. He does get a lot of activity walking with us outside, not going in a stroller, running a lot with other kids, climbing up and down stairs, and so on. He had three bowls of spaghetti with organic meat and vegetable sauce for dinner. I'm happy he liked the sauce I made and consumed vegetables, but how can his little body take in so much food? Is this normal?

Be thankful you only have one. My neighbors had 4 boys that were all in their teens at the same time. They would all go to the store with mom - to help push the carts. One cart with just milk, another of just bread, a couple with meats and veggies,,,,etc and so forth. And that was just for 2 weeks! I'm thinking that food bill was at least keeping up with the mortgage, car, and insurance payments wrapped together.

My kid is four now and he eats everything in sight and then some.
He is always hungry. He will eat a nice meal and an hr or so later
    wants more.

He is not even close to over weight ... not even pudgy ... I think they need it to grow.

Food isn't that efficient. And kids around that age are probably about the most active for their size, and it is one of the fastest growing periods. So don't be shocked if he eats so much. I remember some of the things I ate, and I do NOT eat that much now. If I did, I would go to one of those low end eating contests(Not the famed hotdog one, but maybe like one of the few where they have a HUGE steak of hamburger and you get it for free if you can eat within a certain time), and I would certainly get the eat free! They would have to raise the requirements for fear that would eat too much!

But YEAH, some is burned off as energy, and some may be used for growth. Just remember how small he was two years, or even one year, ago.

It is normal since kids are very active when they play and that's the reason why they burn those calories away. Just make sure that kids who eat a lot should in turn exercise or else he will be obese if he will not do any physical activities.

Not a moment goes by in the day when he's not exercising, climbing counters, climbing daddy, running in the mall, walking along the sidewalk (we don't even bother with strollers, since he doesn't care for them), taking martial arts classes, running in the library (only willing to read books in the evening), going up and down stairs, climbing ropy jungle gym at the playground, chasing after skateboarders and bicyclists in the park (like a dog chasing cars).

A neighbor of mine mentioned that he can tell when one of his kids is going to have a growth spurt, because the kid will start eating more.

That's neat. Strollers seem odd to me most of the time. The kid would be better off walking and developing his foot skills. A lot of the time it seems a kid is in one just to keep it under control, so the parent doesn't have to keep track of it.
