Letters show up a minute or two later!

I guess is the correct place to post this, so here goes:

What needs to be fixed on your computer if you sometimes type something and you don't see any letters show up? Sometimes I will highlight something or try to fill out a form and the letters don't appear for a while! This doesn't happen all the time (I'm typing this now and it is instant)....it just happens sometimes. It gets frustrating because you have to wait for the computer to recognize the typing command.

I can only guess what is causing this...so I figured I'd ask for opinions from my fellow WFers

Thanks all.

Use your Task Manager to see what processes are taking up most/all of your CPU. Also run a full virus scan to make sure that whatever is taking up your power has actually been invited.

Thanks...I'll definitely run the (full) virus scan...but I can't even identify half my processes because a lot of them are initials and numbers...and I am afraid to shut stuff down...like shutting windows down by accident.

If you sort the processes by CPU usage, only a tiny few will stand out. Google them.

David, I attached this image. Does this look right? As you can see, I only have three Chrome tabs open...yet, look at the task manager.

I am not able to see this graphic very well, but it looks like there are many Chrome processes running. No idea why. Try a different browser; I use Firefox.

Chrome runs each tab as a new process so that if one crashes it doesn't take them all out. This shouldn't be an issue unless you've got 1gb RAM and 30+ tabs open.

If the problem is Chrome I would suspect a runaway extension. Disable them one by one until the problem goes away.

I can't see the screenshot either. Don't resize it..... or if WF is resizing it (not sure if it does or not) put it on TinyPic.com or Imgur.com.

  • I would check the keyboard speed setting in the Control Panel. Go ahead and reset it to a different speed, save it, then go back and put it where you want it. Clear out the temp directories on your system and clear the browser cache. Reboot and see how it works. When you get time, defrag the drives.
