Sometimes I'll make up fictional names and throw them into the conversations I have with people. Many people nod knowingly or even add a word of praise for the fictional person. It is a technique I picked up from direct marketing pioneer J. Thomas Oxford to ascertain who's going to be upfront with me.

When I was younger and partied more, I'd introduce myself at parties or bars with an outlandish name just to watch people's reaction.

    Hi, I'm Noggustram Nigglenorf.

What I want to know is if you were "partying", how you pulled off saying that tongue twister of a name without slaughtering it, lol!

My dear, not all parties involve alcohol.

Of course, for the ones that did, I pulled that rabbit out of the hat early on.

As an environmentally responsible person, when I drop a name I always stop and pick it up before moving on....

My friend, Stephen Cheeseburger (correct spelling) recently went Hollywood and shortened his immigrant name to "Cheese" .

It worked, he recently got a promotion to Mayor of Cleveland. He now goes by...yup....Mayor MacCheese.
