Where exactly is Potemkin village? I've promised myself a good holiday for years.

You obviously didn't check Google maps:
        https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=Potemk...N__5-g&split=0
I'm pretty sure I'd get lost if I went there myself. I always get lost in places that have names like that.

I think, IRONICALLY, that we are all pretty much in one. I'm wondering when it gets examined just a little TOO closely, and falls apart! It IS interesting though. About 2000 years earlier, a battle had to be fought against a formidable foe. They fought long and hard against the foe giving it their ALL! Only one guy was said to have gone back to have the other front build up the appearance that another army was ready to fight AGAIN! In a sense, it was a potemkin village created before the namesake was even born. The battle was known as the battle of marathon.

I was in the process of doing just that, but the wife walked in and somehow a map of the local supermarket came up instead.

Not without a zip code it ain't. So it's not "damn near" anywhere.

            HD,

You have a Marathon? Ohhh, I want one!

            I haven't had a Marathon in years.

That looks the same as a Curly Wurly over here - and Marathons were renamed to Snickers!

Gold country - the Rush before the Rush. Not a bad place to be parked this time of year. Well - other than the proximity to the Macon county police force.

I looked up that banjo player and found contradictory information:
Jon Voight claimed Redden "was a boy who had a genetic imbalance – a product of his mother and his brother, I think. He was quite amazing, a very talkative fellow."

Notice how he says, "I think." Personally, I suspect John Voight was making up facts, I "think." Another source says that he was neither retarded no inbred. He's definitely not retarded, I can say that much:
Where is Deliverance Banjo player Billy Redden now?
"Well, to expose the reality behind the movie magic, he was a regular kid named Billy Redden, neither mentally retarded or inbred. He did not actually play the banjo – a local musician hid behind the boy and played with his hands instead. The boy’s unfortunate physiognomy was also exaggerated by makeup, and by just sitting there silently, he wrote himself into movie history."
