"Let's make a battery!"

My son, 3, insisted that he wanted to put a battery into his toy locomotive train and screw it shut, so I let him do it as I watched. He then said, "Daddy, let's make a battery!" I said, "We don't have the materials for making a battery." He insisted, "Let's watch a video on how to do it." So, I did a search and, lo and behold, found this:
My son watched it, then victoriously stated, "See, daddy, we can make a battery at home!"

Doing science with children is a great way to teach them about reality as long as it is done safely.

Teach him? I have to learn a lot of it myself first. I basically have to do a crash course in everything to be able to find answers to his endless stream of questions.

Here's another video on making batteries at home. My son is watching these kinds of videos one after the other in rapt fascination:

Neat idea to finally take advantage of the US governments greed and secrecy! I'm surprised it lasts as long as it does. Ironically, this is pretty much how the FIRST battery was built, different metals stacked together with a material soaked in the electrolyte in between.

There is nothing more rewarding than to see the moment of discovery in a young child's eyes!

And just think, you get to do it all over again when you get grandchildren!

Sounds like he may need some more time on that.... Might want to hold off on the biology videos for the moment.
