...I ate a lot of grass, leaves, roots, various shrubs, occasionally paper. My diet may be more varied as a human, but there are many things my gut doesn't deal with as well as when I was a goat.

There were only about 5 kinds of trees in northern Alberta where I grew up, but I knew the taste of the different parts of the ones I climbed. I didn't eat them except for the inner bark of the willow, which had such a nice taste. I later found out that was where aspirin first came from.

We had a veggie garden, concord grapevine, apple, plum, peach, mulberry, and cherry trees. We had wild strawberries and raspberries, black raspberries and elderberries that grew along the road to the orchard. I didn't have ROOM to eat any strange and mysterious treats. In summer my mom shoved me out the back door with a salt shaker and jacknife and figured I had lunch enough and I was told to be back by dinner time (when the sun got to about "here").
