I think (or at least I hope) the nature of the Internet and technology ensures that new players will always emerge to curtail total dominance by any one particular entity (my new word du jour).

My G earnings have gone down so much that I hardly pay attention to it. I've just taken other routes and other approaches than trying to please a mysterious and unaccountable game-rigger that makes arbitrary changes, deliberately obfuscates everything, and is almost impossible to contact (though they demand contact information from everyone else).

Yes, for sure, but that is just what a lot of people are doing , or trying to do. That said, some ticket scalpers and dog vendors outside of stadiums do sporadically make nice money.

Google manipulates search engines, so I am totally ok with others trying to do the same -- all power to them (but I'm not smart enough to do that). I don't have anything against Google. I just don't mess around with their slot machines. They operate their casino business well. Since they can get away with it, hypocritically demand standards of others that they don't apply to themselves. If you own the game, you can set the rules however and whenever you want (it's in the small writing). Banks do the same thing.

Yeah, well, gee Ken. Quit beatin' around the bush and tell us how you really feel.

Hmmm - I've never paid them and they still haven't dropped me off. They like me even better when I keep up with my blog. Ya don't build a business to keep a search engine happy. Ya build it to keep viewers happy. If you're doing that you can pretty much just cruise right through the algorithm changes.

Still won't use google to the tune of paying for them, though.
