With a rash of high profile car crashes lately, you might be interested in this Road and Track article that details what exactly happens in a car crash.

Here's one tip: several times a year they find people without a mark on them, feeling fine, walking around a car crash they just survived, and later that same person dies. They bled out from the inside from the impact on their organs. So no matter how you feel after a car crash, go to the hospital.

Slow down, folks.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. My teenage years, and many years after that.

Another thing that struck me in that article is you're often better off hitting something straight head-on, not a glancing or "corner" hit.

It's not just the airbags, it's how the superstructure of the car reacts.
