Has anyone here read "Flowers in the Attic"? A new TV movie version of "Flowers in the Attic" will be airing on January 18.

I read it when I was much younger and I was disturbed to discover that my father read the whole series after he retired. Considering the subject matter it made me uncomfortable.

I read the series when I was young - somewhere in my teens. It WAS disturbing, but a good read nonetheless. Well, the first book anyway. Wasn't real taken with the followups...

I only heard about it recently because a friend of mine is acting in it. It is a disturbing story line and the movie is staying true to the story line.

I saw the original movie years ago. I remembered it was 'horror' and well-done and I hope the re-make is as good or better.

From what I can ascertain, it is going to be better. My guess is it will make a big star out of actor Mason Dye.

The first book was so unique I remember much of it to this day - and it's been a LONG time since I read it.

The second and third in the series were not as good but readable. After that the series went downhill and I stopped paying attention to it. I may be wrong but seem to remember the author died and someone else wrote the later books?

The story was disturbing and unusual but the first book was full of detail and imagination.

I was disturbed to discover that my father read the whole series after he retired. Considering the subject matter it made me uncomfortable.
That's a little sad to me....not that he would read the books but that it would bother you.

Wasn't that by VC Andrews? I read it a long, long time ago and really don't remember word one of the thing. I probably will watch the movie just so I don't have to re-read the book to remember what it was about.

She died December 19, 1986 and her estate hired a ghost writer to write under her name because she was such a successful writer.

I tried to read her Clan of the Cave Bear - just didn't grab me.

I read that one. Didn't realize it was the same author. I don't remember liking it overly much - was able to finish it without suffering, though. Don't remember much about it either, so it wasn't striking at any rate.

Jean M. Auel wrote Clan of the Cave Bear. She was born in 1936 and still kicking.

Hopefully, the new tv movie will be more true to the book. I found the original movie a little hammy.

Doesn't look like something I'm going to be watching. Now I remember why I wasn't a VC Andrews fan. Just didn't care for the stories.

Wow! I read the book way back when I was either in my late teens or early twenties. I liked it okay. I believe I read the next book in the series or two, but they were getting less and less a good read so I dropped reading the next ones.

I never have watched a movie made about the book and don't really intend to, lol!

We don't have a TV, so really don't watch it at all, except what might show up on Internet. But I will somehow watch Flowers in the Attic, only because a friend is acting in it.
