When I lived in Burk Canyon up in N. ID, my backyard was about 20 feet above my roof. I used to climb out the bedroom window, cross the roof and step onto the path to walk to it. There was a moose and her kid that used to hang out there. I saw them once and just stayed on the path and went back in the house in case she was protective of the kid....she was bigger than I wanted to tangle with. After that I would go up to the yard with goodies for them to eat and when they saw me I would put the stuff down and leave. It took awhile but I was able to get closer and closer all the time. I was finally able to feed them - took darned near all summer.

I always would stand beside them like you would a horse so I wouldn't get kicked. Then one day I learned those guys could kick straight out sideways. Holy cow. I'm so glad I decided to take it slow making friends with them. They're some pretty kewl people if you don't scare them or piss them off.

Unless it's fenced - it won't even be around.
