WOW. A Chinese Man Killed himself because his girlfriend wouldn't stop shopping.

A Chinese man jumped seven stories to his death after his girlfriend refused to stop shopping.

Tao Hsiao, 38, had been shopping with his girlfriend at the Golden Eagle International Shopping Center in Xuzhou, China, when she asked to go to one more shoe store, according to Gawker.

The pair had been shopping for five hours.

And, police say, he finally reached his limit.

"He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime and it was pointless buying any more," an eyewitness said, according to the Daily Mail. "She started shouting at him accusing him of being a skinflint and of spoiling Christmas, it was a really heated argument."

The fight ended when Tao threw the pair's shopping bags down and jumped over a balcony, smashing into Christmas decorations before hitting the floor below, CCTV reported.

Tao was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

I'm not a mind doctor but it seems to me that he was on the brink anyway and he used her over shopping spree as an excuse to off himself.

    May he rest in peace.

Whatever happened to men who had the ability to say "no, I won't go shopping - have a good time" or "if you want the car, YOU buy it"?

          You read my mind.

In my family we have the opposite problem. I hate to shop, my wife hates to shop.

I would guess that Honey Boo Boo, is an African American sitcom, with an overweight and obnoxious housewife!

Who no doubt has a few one liners, she says to an audience, in a laughing gas room????

A sitcom to really get the suicide rates up!

Australia thankfully doesn't get that crap, and hopefully we never will?

I have heard of Captain Kangaroo, (only because Bruce Willis, mentions it in Die Hard 3, and Pulp Fiction) but not that one!

Am l right about the above description or not????

They were raised by domineering, feminist mothers. Now they just do what they're told.

My wife says some of the sexiest things I say to her are when I just say no. She was used to always getting her way and found it boring. She puts it in better words, but I'm rarely listening.

Earlier today, my wife asked me a question, and I said "No". She punched me in the nose.

I started crying and screamed "I thought you were supposed to think it's sexy when I say "No!"....as I was wiping the tears from my face.

She got all red faced and said "Who told you that garbage, Riffle!? You can tell that Hobbit that blah, blah, blah..."

She said some others things, I guess, but I wasn't listening. I was crying (my nose still hurt), but I wasn't listening....because I'm a Man!, and I don't have to take her shi...what? ...Oh, nothing Dearest....No, I'm not on the Forum talking with Riffle....No, I'll rub your feet in a minute....I'm going to try something new tonight...it's called the Danny Thomas experience...Yes, I think you'll find it pretty novel....I learned about it from Riffle....

I think you got the "on the brink" part right. There has to be more to the story I would think. It seems unlikely someone who commits suicide needs an excuse.

This is precisely what I'm talking about. You ladies are gobsmacked when a man doesn't fall into a slobbering trance the minute you start your routine.

Before anybody starts, when comparing the state of men and women today, I'm more anti-man than anti-women, if we have to place such a label.

I'm also truly sorry for the current masculinization of women. It's truly ruining everything beautiful about womanhood. For example, the increase in female rates of heart attack, the increase in female violent crime, etc. Feminism asked for equality, which, of course, is a good thing. However, I fear it's coming at a price for women.

Geez Dan, don't get your knickers in a knot, I was jus razzing you. lol

                          Lindy

No knotted knickers, Lindy. I was just heading off others at the pass. If I weren't married, I'd love going shopping with you, provided I'd get to pick the store.

                            I'm not that way inclined.

Butt naked underwear then Lindys apparent knowledge of some cross dressing underwear fetish that even I and Claude were unaware of, is quite normal to be curious about.

Frank, if you and the lovely Mrs. Donovan are leaving on your knickers, you're doing something wrong.

Ha! Just saying "No" is the perfect solution, but timing counts too, Kay.

Every weekend when hubby and I were dating and throughout our engagement, he took me to the mall, walked hand and hand with me, helped picked out clothing, shoes, etc.

Then after we were married and had all kinds of money we were given as wedding gifts, I said to him enthusiastically, "C'mon honey, let's go shopping. There are so many things we need for the house."

He went and laid on the couch, put his hands behind his head, propped his feet up on the back of the couch and said, "Me? Go shopping? You must have me mistaken for someone else, I hate shopping!" Then flashed me a big old smile, lol!

Actually, I'm glad he did that because now, on the rare occasions we're forced to shop together, he completely ruins the whole "shopping" experience, haha! I hate shopping with him!

I love shopping with my wife. I get to complain the whole time. I get to ask when she'll be done..over and over again. I get to say things like "Don't worry about me....I'm just here for you" and 'My feet hurt from all the walking, but take as long as you like". Afterwards I can complain about my back hurting, because I'm carrying all the bags. All in all, a pretty good time.

Any chance I can get to complain about something, I'm in! :p

Th closest we get to that is (I'm being serious now) she'll say "I think that's it"..and if we are in a mall or department store, I say "What are the chances that we will actually make it to the checkout in a straight line?"

And then, of course, she finds something else. And I enjoy every minute of it.

Or they could go to Fiverr, and ask someone to make a start. Something like...

A friend of mine pays a gay designer to accompany his wife on her shopping trips, give her wardrobe suggestions, makeup advice etc. A core concept in Buddhism is to establish a way of life that alleviates suffering, so that is not only a wise way to invest money (if one can afford it), but a holy one.

An interesting take. The truth is, my wife is 66 years old, and I'll be 59 in a couple of weeks. there is perhaps a 50/50 shot that one of us will be gone in ten years, and a near certainty that at least one of us will be gone in 20 years.

We spend as much time together as we can. So, shopping with her is more important than doing anything else with anyone else.

That's as close to "Holy" as I get.

My post here is not really in response to yours, but your post gave me the thought.

Lindy; Thank you, but I'm not really a softie. But at late middle age, we all have regrets. "I wish I spent more time with my kids", "I wish I visited my Mom more often". Some of these things are in the past, and we can't do anything about it.

But being a good Husband? I can certainly do something about that.

And, truth be told, I wouldn't feel that way if she wasn't a phenomenal wife.

I don't know if age softened me, but I know it made me wiser.

I'm battling a bad cold. I think it's making me all sentimental.

I've simply lost my ability to withstand shopping trips for clothes. Just ain't happening. Some people react badly to pollen or dog hair. I react badly to shopping for clothes, purses, make-up, fashion accessories, moisterizer...I suffer just writing about it.

I have my regrets, too. I wish I had done more for the one person who was always on my side from the beginning of my life, though she wasn't a blood relative (and, frankly, I can't same the same about my biological relatives). I wish I'd stayed with my old dog in another country when I was returning to Canada, instead of leaving her with a family to run away and disappear. There are lots of things I'd do differently if I could.

I do enjoy a lot of time with my young son and I wouldn't give that up for the world. My father was a great person, but aloof from me as a child. (I've written about my wee son a fair bit here, to the point that one person publicly complained about it on this forum a few times, lol.)

Yeah, remember going with my parents for shoes, etc.

I could handle 2 hours, but after that, l started to turn into a tired, bored and hungry zombie, that would try or do anything to escape!

But yeah, this guy sounds like a nutter, l will kill myself and then later on in heaven, (note to skeptics, had to use this word) when l have said hello, to my dead family members, and pets, etc, l will realize, that it wasn't worth killing myself over!

I hate taking my sister anywhere near a store as she can be in the store for hours looking at things.

I can be in and out in an hour or less because I go in knowing what I'm gonna purchase.

So here I am done with my shopping and then I sit on the bench waiting for my sister to get done.

I get tired of sitting on the bench so I go out to my truck and wait some more. I then call her on her cellphone and she says she's about done. "Yeah right". lol

I tell her I'm gonna go get my other shopping done at the other stores and I come back 4 hours later and she comes out with just a few things that she could have gotten in and out with in less than an hour as she already had those things in the cart and everything else she was looking at she didn't buy.

So true. This is where mobile devices have saved my life. It calms me down if I can get on the internet. But then I would run out of battery life.

Now I carry the charger with me, and have been seen standing in all manner of strange places where there is a power outlet (there's a plug behind this fake tree!), charging up and happy as can be.

In my last serious relationship, roles were reversed. I'd want to go out into the wild areas and find rocks - my bf wanted to go shopping. Not like he could afford a shopping habit, either. Sometimes he was broke and would go just to LOOK at stuff. Serious.

I hate shopping even when I know what I want and have the money in my pocket to pick it up. It's wasted time to me. To want to go look at stuff you know you can't even buy, to me, is a complete and twisted mental issue. I always refused to go. I'm not someone who's ever been thought of as a masochist.

Our mall has the lounge with the couch and big-screen TV - it's called My House. No really it's my house.

But seriously what's the point of that? If the girl-friend or wife doesn't mind you hanging out in the lounge, then why not just let us stay home?

Maybe the spouse or girlfriend can't drive. Maybe the guy buys whatever he needs
and is done quickly. Maybe the guy is wanted for his occasional opinion or help...?

Sounds like the girl in this story wanted his money and services as pack mule.

Seriously, if someone made me shop for five hours, I'd probably have to fight the urge myself. I'm a woman but I hate shopping.

The only reason someone reluctant to shop is dragged with is because the shopper is too stupid to make their own decisions -- or feels that if they want something bad enough and "have to have" it the other person might relent and help pay for it. I'd never be able to live in the same house with someone who FORCED me to shop.

Since China is such a large country, odd things are bound to happen from time to time. But it is also that they have became extremely materialistic over there. I know of cases where as soon as the girl is recognized as his girlfriend, she immediately resigns from her work, moves into his apartment and demands a monthly allowance. Recently, my daughter's school received a number of exchange students from a city in China where they stayed at the counterpart student's home for a few days. They came bearing gifts with the price label attached, and the prices were up to US$300. This has caused a big headache for our parents because they feel that they must return the favor.

Here is a video of a rage in a car showroom in China. This clip may have been shown here before. The girl wants a car but her boyfriend refused to buy it. She then got into the car and drove around in a rage. His boyfriend got so embarrassed and was forced to buy it for her.

Hysteric Chinese Girl over refusal of her boyfriend to buy a Car ! - YouTube
lol. I got an ad at the bottom of that video to a site to meet Chinese girls.

I wouldn't have bought that car for her after she went into that rage.

I would've just left her there and let the sales people deal with her. lol

The OP story is very sad, but statistically rare and extreme behavior.

These are typical scenes we see everyday in Hong Kong now. Often long queues of mainland Chinese shoppers outside luxury shops. Sometimes it gets so bad tempered that it ends up in scuffles or even fights. Some of these shops have even imposed a quota on how much can an individual shopper buy.

These luxury shops and expensive restaurants have driven cheaper traditional shops and eateries out of many neighborhoods. Moreover, it has driven property prices and rents to the highest to the world. That is why there is a massive resentment and backlash against Chinese mainland tourists at the moment.

That's amazing, Derek. It makes me feel like an alien species as I don't understand the need to "acquire" or why people pay high prices for products with someone else's name or initials on them. I have friends who talk about how much "fun" it is to shop all day - to me that would be torture and booooring.

I must be missing the shopping gene in my genetic code...but that's ok.

Then I guess I have it good. My wife doesn't like shopping - except at Christmas time and she goes with her mother. She NEVER asks me to go. When she shops she knows what she wants, goes in and gets it an then done. Me - I shop on line. Except food of course.

And - best part of all... NO Honey Boo Boo!!!!
