Why bother saying "Put the gun down"

The guy although he maybe a dangerous creep, he was complying so why take his life.

They claim he had a hand gun but I didn't see it, after watching several times I just couln't make out if he did have another gun.

    Why are they so calm after they've shot him? Whenever I see video clips of cops shooting suspects, they throw themselves over them afterwards. Here they are like "mission accomplished".

    The guy did have a gun. Look at the 5 second mark and you'll clearly see it in his right hand.

    Yeah, it looks like he put the rifle down while pulling the gun out of its holster. The police were watching and, about when it was maybe a couple inches out, they shot. I guess he never noticed the officer to his side.
