we will meet new year for several days. most of people think that day is so special, but some is not.
what do you think about that ?

    New Year's here in the US is very celebrated. I think most countries celebrate the New Year. I know Germany does - I was there during one New Year. I know China celebrates theirs, but it's not at the same date as ours.

    Frankly - I'd be surprised to hear about a culture that did not celebrate its new year.

    January the 1st is the first day of a new year or it is just another day. People use it as an excuse to party. Others treat it as any other day. I don't think of it as anything except the end of one year and the beginning of another.

      It's a day my store is closed, and I'll be working on one of my books.

      But this is coming from a very secular person, that isn't involved in our culture.

      Employees find it means a lot more. Maybe a paid day off. An excuse to party.

      For me, it just means another deadline. When marketing, I use it as another reason to buy now "Start the new year out right" or "No payments until next year".

      My wife's & son's birthdays mean more to me.

      To some it means a fresh start. New possibilities, now goals. But I can do that any Wednesday.

      Man, I sound like an old grump.

    You don't sound like an old grump, Claude. I will most likely be doing some work myself. It's just another day to achieve goals and I'd rather be ahead in my work so I can take on new work when it comes in. I hate knocking back work unless it's something I don't want to do or the price isn't right.

    I love New Years. I always had. Some year when I'm where the crowd is right, I like to party with the town. Some years I just like to sneak off on my own. My first year in OR, it was on a Friday so I took off with my dog and I to the beach for new years. We strolled the beach and talked to people standing around campfires. I'd never been to the coast before. I like to do something new on New Year, and I never plan what it will be until the morning of so it's a surprise for me, too where I'll end up. I ALWAYS have a good new year.

    And yeah I know you people hate the screaming, but it's a hastle to Highlight and bold and it's not to hold a finger down on the caps key. So........well, it's not a desertation huh.

        That's what I was going to day. Here too everything happens New Year's Eve. I usually like to go out somewhere that night, to a party or just a bar or club where there's a celebration.

        New Years Day is recognized as a holiday and government offices are closed but otherwise nothing much happens. Sports fans (not me) look forward to it for the (U.S.) football. As a freelancer, it's basically just another day for me. At the same time, there is some sense of a new beginning.
