Only a matter of time before the next Mission Impossible or Bond movie, does a chase scene through this!

Probably with a flame thrower?

Those are absolutely stunning and breathtaking!

As much of a wimp that I am for cold weather, I'd bear it to see those up close and personal, for sure!

Yeah, maybe they should have used lucite instead.

Looks like my thanks ran out - but I appreciate everyone's appreciation.

Terra - I've been to ice festivals. They are all worth the time in the chill..........but this is just outrageous.

The Winter Fest in McCall Idaho is a great one. They more or less do snow more than Ice - but they freeze the snow. The sculptures are more life size and bigger and they are all over the place. People build them everywhere - then there's a county fair type festival going on in the town - and fireworks after dark. It's really a blast. I would love to go back again.

I went, I froze, I wasn't that impressed and was sorry I did go, lol!

Maybe if I had gone to the one in Idaho, I'd feel differently.

I still haven't shaken my chill.

That's really cool (no pun intended). Some of that stuff looked pretty big. The lights really help set off the sculptures.

This little town puts on a snow sculpting contest every year to raise money for the humane society. It's nothing like those gorgeous ice sculptures, but some of the local snow sculptors come up with some fairly impressive stuff. The one below was actually a slide for the kids to play on.

Dennis - was that McCall or some other little town?

The sculptures in McCall actually get pretty big sometimes. They've got all sorts of em all over. Some are as simple as snowmen the local kids make - some are more elaborate and well done. Here's a few of my favs from different years :

Crap - I'm out of thanks AGAIN? Already?

Wisconsin Rapids. The ones you posted, especially that first one, look like they were done by pros. This is just for local amateurs.

The ones I posted probably were, Dennis - but a lot of them are about the same skill level as the dog. Like I said - all kinds. It's just a fun festival for everyone. Didn't know they had one in WI but I'm starting to think from this thread that there's many that go on around the States - and outside of them. I'd call that a good thing.

You're living in your own Private Idaho?

If you go there Terra beware of the pool?

You might be right about there being many of them. Here's the sculpture my daughter and son-in-law did a couple years ago.

That's my grandson and granddaughter with the Penguins of Madagascar. It doesn't show in the photo, but that's supposed to be brick wall behind them. It's part of their sculpture. It looked much better in person.

The eagle and that blue thing on the right - whatever that is supposed to be - are someone else's entries. If I remember correctly, the eagle won that year.

I tried posting to this thread back when I first read it (about 9.30am local time), but unfortunately the WF was down at the time so couldn't.

Anyways, with the temperature here being 41C (106F) at 9.30 in the morning, I soooooo wanted to take a stroll through the streets of that "ice city".

Sounds about like the Idaho desert in summer. You guys ever think of doing a tad bit of reforesting?

In most of the country/continent, there was never any forest to begin with.

Didn't realize that. I know the rainforest that were there are almost completely dessicated now. That can still have repercussions across the continent.

Maybe you should move to the mountains of New Zealand. Um.......not the ones that spew lava, though. Deserts tend to get a tad hot in the summer. Enjoy the pics and..........dream, baby.

      Technically, my step-children and step-grandchildren.

I have no idea what the blue thing is supposed to be. There are always 2-3 of them I can't figure out what they are unless I ask someone.

We sort of did that just before Christmas. There's a small zoo about 30 miles from here. In the winter there are about 800 volunteers that string 1.5 million lights on the zoo grounds.

It's takes a while to walk through and see it all, and this year it was cold and icy, so by the time we finished everyone was frozen, and especially our feet from standing on ice for a couple hours. We weren't expecting that so didn't dress for it.
