What's Gone Wrong With the USPS?

A 2-day Priority Mail package shipped from New York was mis-routed hundreds of miles and took 7 days to reach me. The online tracking stated it had been wrongly addressed, but this wasn't true, it was correct right down to the 9 digit zip code.

Another Priority Mail package shipped from Florida on the 28th of last month has completely vanished.

On the other hand, two regular letters, one mailed in California, the other in Newark, both were delivered in two days. Crazy . . .

Probably nothing more than the holiday season and the virtual tons of extra packages mailed during that time.

Add in all the inclement weather, too.

That's what they told us about the camera hubby had ordered for me for Christmas and I just got one week ago today.

    Incompetence.
There is no reason that the USPS could not run just as well as usps except management.

It's not just holidays. I had a member of my forum send me a package and it got lost - and even though it was sent to the right address, it went back to him after being wherever for almost a month. I've also had about three pieces of regular mail just vanish. I also did a change of address and they recorded the wrong "old" address so that mail got lost, too. I was furious they recorded the address so wrong and they said a "machine does it" and it misread the 7 in the number -- well there were four 7's on that thing and they all looked the same, yet one was misread? Okay, whatever.

What is the biggest BS about this whole thing is that if you mail something "official" and the mail loses it so your mail isn't there on time - it's YOUR fault. But if they mail to you, it's not their problem if you don't get it in time.

But, the point I'm making is two regular letters completely outstripped two Priority Mail letters. Surely those where the sender has paid nearly $6 for a Priority service, should move faster than two regular letters costing $0.66

Also, the Priority Mail that appears to be totally lost was posted after Christmas and is coming from Florida where there are no weather issues.

In that case, see Kim's post above.

That is NOTHING! I ordered a package on 12/2/2013! I WAITED and WAITED and WAITED! FINALLY, after like 4 days, signs of life! It got closer and closer and closer! THEN, they delivered it to USPS! Since the USPS didn't have two neurons to rub together, they decided their magical zipcode would get the job done, DEVOID OF LOGIC! Somewhere, it was assigned incorrectly. It went a LITTLE out of its way. Knowing how the hub and spoke could be odd, I didn't think much of it.

THEN, they decided to send it to VOID! OOPS, guess that is WRONG! Let's WAIT! We'll send it AGAIN! MAYBE the city sprung up by MAGIC! OOPS, guess that is wrong! Let's wait MORE! OOPS! The guy is coming back, we have to play keep away! Let's send it a few thousand miles away as SLOW as we can! YEAH! They SUPPOSEDLY got it back to the senders! It only took them 24 days to do this garbage! Did you figure it out yet? I got back the day AFTER Christmas!

Well, I KNEW I was coming back, and they would likely mess up AGAIN, so I couldn't check on the 27th through the 5th. THEN, the polar vortex hit, so I couldn't check until TODAY! WHEN will it get here? WHO KNOWS!? I will give them till tomorrow, then I will call, even if I have to push it. I will then give them until wednesday before I ask for a REFUND. I will then give them until next monday before I dispute! After all, it has already been 42 days!!!!!!!
