It usually takes two to three men to hold down an Alligator of this size and this idiot thinks he is strong enough to go it alone.

He fought the law and the law won, my bad wrong song.

He definitely needs to get his head checked.

When I saw the thread title I was afraid it was about me.

What it shows is the truth about most alligators - they aren't interest in you much as long as you leave them alone. That guy was nuts.

I missed a good shot at one yesterday when I failed to take my camera with me. I went to Davis Bayou to walk my dog (it's part of the national seashore park) and on our regular path I was standing at the edge of the bayou looking at a snake curled up on a rock and a huge snapping turtle on a log by the water's edge. Then I looked out over the water and saw an alligator about 8 feet long sunning itself about 12 feet from where I was standing. I moved.

Which is a good opening for an "alligators don't like tough old birds" joke, but since I'm scared of you I'll refrain.

Where was this? That way, I'll know where not to go vacationing.

I couldn't help but wonder why he tried to throw that towel over the gator's eyes? Did he really think that if it didn't see him, it wouldn't know he was there?

Yes exactly, it's a common technique used by gator hunters, this guys only mistake was that he knows nothing about gators. It was like going to a gun fight armed with a knife.

Alligators are really strong and fast, you need 2-3 men to hold down a gator of that size. With that being said, I'm willing to think that just like a toddler who touches fire for the first time, this guy will not be going near another gator anytime soon.

First you have to tire the gator out.
Then you throw a towel over his eyes ( to calm him down )

Then you jump on his back.

He was too timid, so was his back up.

Around here we get gators all over the place.
Depending on who shows up they wrestle or shoot them
              ( I prefer when they don't kill them )

I have never attempted it and I never will.
But i have watched it many times. I also watched a lot of
              amateurs get bit.

Well, huh! Who woulda thunk it?

I live in Michigan, the only experiences I have with alligators are just looking at them through glass at the zoo and they creep me out enough there.

Terra - I thought the same thing....

"if you can't see me you won't feel this..." not a good plan

I'm on the coast of Mississippi.

Steve - you're right - I missed some good pics. We'll be going for a walk there now almost daily at the same time - hoping to catch them sunning again.

Why are you calling him an idiot? Don't you watch cartoons?! Anyway, I didn't notice my 3-year-old son arriving behind me watching the video. His voice made me jump when he asked, "What is that man doing? Is he trying to get himself killed?!"

The guy really IS an idiot. Shoot kay, you DID miss a good opportunity. And THREE creatures, that at one time or another were the prey or predator of the other two, being so close together!

He should pray to God and thank Him that the alligator didn't bite any of his body parts, but he only bit the T-shirt. But yes you are right. That was stupid.
Just imagine if those were old people playing Truth or Dare and this guy took dare.

      "you live around here"???

You bet - great find - that's exactly where Gracie and I walk - it's a couple miles from my house. That's my park!

The top 12-13 rows of photos are typical of what I see there daily.
