I just mentioned this on another thread. It's time for people to just shut off US news completely. Let those corporations controlling our media die. It's bad enough that the press lying to us was legallized - but when they go to this kind of extreme to keep real news from us - they need to go bankrupt. Let those sorry little unethical, stupid dogs that try to pass themselves off as journalists go stand in unemployment lines. At the same time we could send a message to our leaders that the jig's up. They need to get their excrement coagulated because we're done playing the divert-the-idiots-attention game.

I have never been so furious at our press. I'll be completely disgusted with our people if they don't respond to this by tanking that station for that crap.

While I don't disagree it's wrong and stupid to interrupt the Congresswoman for ... "he who shall remain nameless," I would like to see a lot more of our politicians removed from the airwaves.

I'd like to see most of them given blindfolds and have paper hearts pinned to their chests as they stare down the barrel of an M14. And I'm not laughing.

Harsh? Maybe, but how else do their replacements learn?

That's why ratings of MSNBC are so low - one of the reasons anyway.

          A couple of questions...

If you put blindfolds on them, how do they "stare" down the barrel of an m14?

And instead of using violence in a way that takes away their 1st and 5th Amendment rights, not to mention their rights to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", why not use the free market system and simply change the channel if you don't like it?

To be perfectly clear, I don't agree that shooting them is the right way to go about this, infact I think its the worst.

The free market system is also not going to be changing any time soon. Infact, its honestly part of the problem.

I'm very pro-business, don't misunderstand me. But, we really do need to limit the amount of power and influence big corporations have in our government.

No, I don't have a specific idea on how to go about this, but something has to be done. Our democracy has been spoiled because of how influential these corporations have become.

The first thing we need to do is educate our people that this system that this is a REPUBLIC not a democracy. It was made a republic so the masses can't oppress the few. Jeez. Come on - we need people to understand what the hell they are out to fix if it's going to happen, right.

Frank, when you made that earlier post I responded by saying "I hear ya." I wasn't sure who you were referring to but I then said something about the guy you mentioned with the five deferments, although I didn't mention names either. My post got deleted within a few minutes probably because of my own outspoken history here. I'm glad we are thinking about the same gang. I'm usually against the death penalty but that's one exception I would be willing to make.

By the way, I think Kurt and welovetheshow were thinking you were saying the reporters should be shot, not certain politicians.

A crazy thread for sure, but I thought it was very clear what I was saying and whom I was referring to. The best punishment for the reporters is to force them to either watch or read their own endless stream of idiocy. They are a useless bunch of toadies. The evening news is 20 minutes without the commercials and 10 minutes of that is meaningless tripe. The other 10 minutes should be devoted to no more than 2 stories. I can't watch it any longer lest it drive me to drink.

I do apologize if I blasted anyone, needlessly. I'm normally such a gentle soul.

I was surprised at the median age of Fox viewers - but they also have the highest number in that target 25-54 age group. I was surprised by some of the numbers on the rating site linked below - had no idea HLN got that much traffic or that MSNBC was outranking CNN.

"He who shall remain nameless" is kind of euphemism for people, and especially celebrities, who we're tired of hearing about. Rodman and Beiber both qualify.

Sorry, I don't get the Harry Potter reference, I'm not much of a movie watcher (I had to Google Voldermort to even know he was a Harry Potter character).

There is an old saying, in some circles, that naming something gives it life. Voldemort is referred to by most in Harry Potter as "He who shall not be named". He was supposedly killed trying to kill Harry Potter, IIRC. But he left like 7 pieces of his "soul" or whatever, in the area before he died, IIRC, and has a following, so they keep bringing him partially alive, and he loves tormenting Harry, who is the only one to survive his wrath. A subplot of the HP series was Harry destroying the horcruxes.

Yes, apparently because of the naming something might give it life aspect, some Native American's won't refer to a dead person by name. They will switch the gender reference as well. ("She died hunting.." When it was a he that died.)

It DOESN'T MATTER! Justin Bieber is NOT american, has NOTHING to do with the US nation, and news of him is NOT so meaningful that people have to know about it right then and there! To say otherwise, in the name of fairness, would require SO MANY "breaking news reports" that there would be little time to cover ANYTHING.

Breaking news reports should be for Emergencies, Important national/local news, and the like.

Honestly, I don't think MSNBC is much worse than a lot of the other news channels.

CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC, etc. are in my opinion around the same ballpark as MSNBC in terms of quality (which is low.)

I'm currently giving Al-Jazeera a shot. On first glance it seems a bit better than the others.

You want to get the best of the free market, and limit their control of government?

    1. Make ALL politicians MERE MORTALS! Subject them to what we MERE MORTALS are subjected to!
    2. Subject the "public sector" to laws of the PRIVATE SECTOR! Companies like IBM used to court companies for business. NOW, they don't NEARLY as much! WHY? It is ILLEGAL! There are limits. HECK, as a consultant, my employer AND clients subject me to such limits.
    3. Handle the colgate doctrine and sherman antitrust act.
    4. FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION!

Just do THAT! Just THAT! And your problems are OVER!

You ask where the compass has gone - and that's a good question.

My own opinion is that more and more "news" is being picked up on Twitter.

Justin Bieber has more followers than the president or any other public figure - so when Twitter lights up about Bieber....those news people who have twitter flowing 24/7 get all excited. They WANT all those followers as their viewers so they play to the Twitter audience. Result is a hot mess instead of real news.

Look at what happened this week when the fellow on Fox (name escapes me at the moment) made the comment that women were capable of handling their own reproductive tracts and didn't need "Uncle Sugar" to buy pills for them. (Uncle Sugar is a very Southern name for "the govt" - it's sort of the cousin to "bless your heart" in the South).

Dana Bash (?) and another "news person" saw a part of the comment on Twitter and immediately launched an attack claiming the Fox person was anti-women. They GOT the story wrong because they took it from Twitter - they didn't vet the comment by checking the actual wording - both had to back up and apologize for their statements because they totally misrepresented what had been said.

....however, by the time they took back their comments those comments had already been tweeted and re-tweeted throughout Twitter.

I think Twitter and, to a lesser extent, Facebook - has a lot to do these days with what news is considered "the lead". We seem to have news people who get much of their news through twitter - which is to say we have very few real "news" people left.

      Yes, like this:

Newscasters and show producers certainly are not filtering
properly - especially if they fly off Twitter without vetting
and going "Oh, yeah, this is Twitter..."
