Wire Transfer USA to UK. Need Advice.

Ok, so I was expecting a payment for services from one of the largest sites on the Internet (not sure if that matters to this).

They told me the payment was issued on the 17th January. I am not sure who they bank with, or what bank the payments are sent from, but assuming they make billions a year I'd assume JP Morgan.

So, not counting the 17th, that would be 7 working days today since they dispatched it. There's still nothing in my account. This is a payment for $5000.

Is this normal? Has anyone experienced wire transfers that have taken this long or longer from the USA to UK?

I trust their word when they said they dispatched it. There would be no reason for them to lie and I wouldn't expect this company to even need to lie about payments.

To add I think the transfer was a SWIFT transfer as they requested my IBAN and SWIFT.

Have you checked with your UK bank? I don't know if this is your first international USD transfer, but depending on which bank you use, it can take several days after the transfer has been received for them to convert the amount to sterling and register it in your account.

I spoke to my bank this morning and they were very unhelpful. They said unless the cash is in my account they can't tell me anything. I have emailed the company sending the wire, but getting a response from them takes days.

Keeping my fingers crossed. I've had a wire mess up some years ago and it took months to sort.

I have had transfers from the USA into this account, but that was also years ago.

If the transfer was sent by a well-known company, the odds are that the delay is with your UK bank. Some branch staff become flummoxed when discussing international transfers in non-UK currencies. Give it a couple more days then try visiting your branch and speaking to the manager.

        Good luck!

WOW, I was under the impression that European banks strove to provide that service.

In the USA, you are lucky if they are even willing to handle canadian dollars or mexican pesos! TRUE STORY! I once went to a frozen yogurt shop and the cashier, who it turns out was the owner, returned a quarter to a customer saying he doesn't take Canadian quarters. The customer tried to say "But it is actually worth MORE than the USD!"! NOW for the punch line! The owner said he KNEW that wasn't true because he was from there! Around the time, a canadian dollar was worth about $0.70!

So EVEN citizens of other countries may not accept it in the US!
