Murdoch tabloid plumbs new depths

To report on the death of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Murdoch's Daily Telegraph (Sydney), plummeted to new depths. Quite an achievement when you consider they were at the bottom of the barrel in the first place.

Check out the headline on the "front page" of their website that announced Mr Hoffman's death:

Within minutes of that being published, a massive backlash on Twitter caused them to change the headline to "Hoffman's history of heroin addiction".

This too caused another backlash, so they've now changed it to "Revealed: Hoffman's last hours", but the story attached to it focused purely on his (alleged) addiction.

The sooner that Murdoch and his team are thrown in jail by the UK authorities, the better off the world will be.

I have seen much worse that that with Murdoch's Sun and News of the World papers in the UK.

Probably, but you think they would've learnt their lesson from that.

So that blind people can hate them as well.

I suppose they are used to this sort of thing in the UK. The gutter press is just as worse in Hong Kong. Not only that, ordinary people are just as likely to be targeted celebrities. We used to have a television aired during prime time just for that.

In one episode, they devoted 15 minutes to a fat lady who does to a particular beach and sunbathes in a bikini all the time. They would go through what she eats and leaves behind. (Just what is the public interest in that) and made alleged that she was slight insane. In another shocking episode. They filmed a couple of octogenarians who would meet up in a public park. The man would take open up an umbrella to cover up his groin area. It is obviously that the woman would masturbate for him. Just what is this doing in prime time television.

We have also had a publication several years back that printed pictures of an actress who has been kidnapped and being abused. This episode was not even known to the police.

We can discuss how vile media can be forever and a day - but, it must be remembered...........this kind of trash wouldn't be headlining if people didn't read/buy it. Look how fast that headline changed with a little public outcry.

Tacky headline - but isn't it the truth?

What I'm tired of is the number of accomplished, well known, financially successful people who kill themselves with drugs. No matter what the headlines say or don't say - his children will know why he's not there to raise them. They will always wonder why drugs were more important than they were. Drugs are a selfish habit - and the price is paid by those left behind.

Addiction isn't a "habit." It's a disease and to call it a habit attempts to simplify something that is not simple. There are psychological and physical addictions and Hoffman struggled with heroin addiction for well over 20 years. He kicked heroin for 23 years and relapsed last year. He attempted to help get Heath Ledger off drugs. He was a young and very talented man who overcame his addiction for a long time, or we would have lost him decades ago.

I just learned a few minute ago that he had kicked the habit for many years - it's amazing how strong that addiction can be that it would pull him back years later.

What I don't understand today is why - with all the evidence we have of the trauma and the destructive power of drug addiction - people still continue to start using hard drugs in the first place. I guess people believe they are "the one" who can use drugs without becoming addicted.

I've always thought everyone has their own "drug/addiction" and those of us who have never found our own can be thankful.

As for Murdoch, he's a miserable person and believes the world is as miserable as he is. Failing to prove that, driven by envy, he has his people repaint it to fit his hateful perspective.
