Is 2014 the year people lose interest in the internet?

I don't think people will actually lose interest in the internet, but I do like to check Alexa.com for internet stats of various websites regularly but as of 2014 it seems virtually every website has lost major traffic this year, from Alex Jones to everything internet marketing related (including Empower Network, Warrior forum and many others) And EVEN social media traffic such as Pinterest and Twitter.
Also If I'm reading the stats right even YouTube and Facebook are down slightly.

Any thoughts as to why this might be?

Weird!

Almost a third of the population is out of work. Maybe they can't afford the connection right now?

I don't know what else to tell ya, because my website is doing fine.

From what l have recently heard, 30% of the planet is online, now, and in the next few years, 75%!

Which means plenty of newbies, with shiny objects in their eyes! :D

And us having to burst their bubble! He, he!

I hope this doesn't become one of those "Is it dead" threads that are so popular in the main forum.

It is quite interesting though, especially as Shane mentioned with more and more people going on-line everyday. I wonder if it's a country thing. Maybe sites in America are down a fraction where as India they may be up?

In all honesty, I haven't a clue. :o

No, no, Alexa.com is a stats that tells about all the websites and virtually every websites traffic seems to be down. I'm not actually really worried about that, I'm more worried about the new light bulb ban, every new light bulb seems to give me headaches, but that's sort of off topic.

Yea I'm not sure, maybe people spent more time online over Christmas, but not now that they went back to work? Or maybe some country lost internet access and we haven't heard about it yet, or maybe the traffic is going to other sites that I haven't caught up with yet, not to sure, it's kind of weird though.

I'm surprised no one has made fun of me and pointed out some obvious explanation, that I've overlooked actually.

the weather's been so bad that many people have been stuck inside - so those who would normally connect using free wifi at the library or local coffee shops have been house-bound
chalk it up to a very snowy stormy winter so far, at least that's what I think.

Unless things have changed, Alexa draws its stats from users who have installed their toolbar. If, as Kay wondered, people have lost interest in Alexa, it could mean fewer people have their toolbar installed on their computer. Fewer toolbars installed could mean fewer visitors across the board.

And when it comes to social sites, those go through cycles.
