Digital T.V. Versus Analog Television - Anyone Else Having Problems?

Lords and Ladies:

I grew up enjoying T.V. as many as you have, and I never remember having had very many interruptions when watching T.V.

But since the national switch over from analog to digital T.V. not only do I have to put up with the black box green eye starring at me night after night. LOL.... not a problem unless the black box is also tracking what I do. LOL.

But here is the real problem....... my T.V. show often breaks up and crackles and sometimes freezes for a bit and this has been going on for a long time. I never had these repeated problems with analog T.V.

How about you? What are you experiencing?

Two things about those boxes ... all of the digital boxes I have run across any way.

    1) they tend to over heat. When they start getting hot what you describe happens.
Find the vent on the box and then place the box where the vent gets the most
    circulation.

    2) The cable wire needs to be better quality then 20 years ago.
Meaning, Good connectors, no crimps ... A little wire maintenace
might be all you need to fix the issue.

Maybe that helps. It's what I did and it helped tremendously.

TVs USED to transfer data effectively pixel by pixel. A poor connection meant lost pixels that effectively created snow, and a poorer connection could lose stabilization, etc.... NOW, since it is digital, they would have to store all that stuff and ONE error in a given area might cause that whole block to change. That is just the way it is. I never saw digital airwave TV, but I HAVE seen digital satellite, and it works as I said. What ken said could certainly help.

BTW it is unlikely that they are spying on you long distance. The Transmit power is supposed to be low level.

      Yep!!!!

We waited for the retuning on the 7th, which apart from SBS disappearing for a while, b**** all!

I have removed the splitter and extra cable from my tv, (CRT TV, with Set top box) which according to online sources helps.

It made a 2% difference, or was a waste of time. I have also cleaned and scraped and tightened all the connections to death, but it doesn't make much of a difference.

I retuned after the 7th, but l still have the issue you have.

I also bought a booster from Tandy, with a adjustment switch, but all that did was to make the perfect stations worse and the rest slightly better.

      I quickly returned that one!

I am getting a tv repair guy out today, but suspect that will be a waste of time?

You might have something with the conspiracy idea?

Channel 31 and some other crappy station are perfect, but try to watch all the rest, and it's a mess.

But hook up a digital tv to the same aerial, (l have a digital one buy the way, that has been professionally adjusted) and near perfect picture.

It seems that digital tv tuners are vastly superior to the cheap independent ones, or this is a dirty trick to get most of Australia to ditch their CRT tv's for LCD ones! Grrrrr!

Sure most Aussies are rich, especially after the last 6 years!

No wonder the crime rate is going up!

Glad l can see most of my shows online!

Ok, had my rant for the day!

Shooting some demented greenies would be better, but l can't have everything! He, he!

Ok, to give an update, apparently the arial was a cheap one, including the cable.

He replaced all that, and told me that if the tuner is 7 or more years old it won't work properly.

And that TEAC is the best, and avoid AWA like the plague!

I have hooked it all up, and eventhough there is still a watery affect across the screen, (hoping if l tighten something it will go away) l have a perfect picture.

It will be ideal if l can get rid of the watery affect, but time will tell.

Certainly better than the dogs breakfast that was there before.

So, new tuner, and possibly leads, then tv repair man if it doesn't fix it!

WAIT A SECOND! I just realized! You are in AUSTRALIA!!?!?!? ****YOU**** had to switch to digital TV ALSO!!?!?!?!? In the US, they told us this was to reassign the frequencies to expand options. If that is the case, why did australia do it around the same time? IIRC, Australia doesn't even use the same frequency ranges!

If understand some of what I have read that is a very small part of the reason.

The military, emergency workers and police will be sharing that.

I also read some docs on, up-coming tech stuff that is supposed to be
part of it ... however much I hate to admit this, It was a bit over my head.
So I really cant explain the tech.

Yep, l also fiddled with the connections, or removed the straight aerial connection to the tv, (which seemed to be fighting the colored plugs to the audio/video).

              So all stations are perfect!

Good to have it working, at least l can watch some of the Olympics on tv, instead of fiddling around with online ones!

We have a provider who delivers both internet and cable TV.

They boosted the modem remotely the other day because the Internet was not working and they got it working remotely, and I noticed that the next day that the sound went down on one T.V. which was easily remedied by turning the volume up on the TV, but the other TV now has a blank picture, but the sound of that TV is still working.

How do I fix the problem with the other TV having no picture? I believe it is related to digital related matters and possibly the modem boost.

The picture disappearing and then coming on again months later has already been endured before and I have no idea why the picture on the other TV came back on again.

What does a guy do?

I doubt it. Have you unplugged your modem to see if your tv then works?

It it more likely that one of your splitters has either gone bad or
can not handle the new frequency.

Easy way to test it, is take the splitter from the working tv
and put it on the non working one and see if it works.

If i remember properly, splitters that route tv and internet need to be
                  above 2100 mhz.

Its been a while, I might be wrong.

Currently some stations are fiddling around with their signals, so l have to keep retuning!

Hope they cut that crap out soon!

HD is really great especially for sporting events.

Depending on the camera angle (most of them) it gives me the feeling of looking through a window while I'm at the sporting event (but I always forget about the window) and its almost 3D.

I had a similar problem for about 5 years. They sent repairmen out several times a year trying to improve my picture. They tried everything, including running 150 ft. of new cable inside and out, but nothing helped.

Finally one guy found the problem where all others had failed. The problem was that there was an old filter on the telephone pole that was supposed to have been removed years ago, but somehow was left behind. This was a filter used to block the premium channels back in the days when it had to be done mechanically. Once they removed that old filter everything was fine.
