Sounds good, but if you go the tournament route, it's a lot harder to make money than many people think. For example, to make $60K USD, you have to invest over $240K, and that's if there are enough tournaments available.

Why You'll Never Make A Living Playing Live Poker Tournaments
  • Yeah, I don't imagine tournaments would be the wise place to start if you wanted to build a substantial income with poker.

A lot more luck involved and more extreme swings than playing something like low-limit.

I've known the pros. They didn't start from poor or average and say I'm going to get rich playing poker. They had a pretty good portfolio and decided to put a portion of it to their gambling funds. I'm sure there are others that start otherwise, but I'm sure they never get rich on it. If they can keep self-supporting and are having a riot living like they do, can't fault them, though.

Everything gets glorified when it hits media. That show Cash and Treasures is so hyped that it is silly to anyone who knows the trade. It's also got idiots out ruining the countryside trying to find that one special million dollar rock.

Then on here it's the sparkly programs that promise great wealth with no work. LOL.

    It never ends.

Yep, we occasionally see someone on the news who finds a million dollar gold nugget!

Then people start to dust off their metal detectors and head for the hills, (so to speak).

But its the smart ones that sit back and think, oh - yeah, he found that after how many years?????

I'm not going to head for the hills if l am going to have to live their for the next 20 years scouring mounds of dirt!!!!

Rather stay online, at least most of the groundwork is already done!

Yeah, overnight success online, but it took me 6 years to reach it! He, he!

My biggest pet peave about the pro tournaments on TV is they always play Texas Hold-em.
    Bad game for pros.
    Too much luck involved.
The best poker players I know, (and they're pretty damn good), prefer stud or draw.

If you want to make a living playing poker, screw the tournaments and
    simply play the tables.
If you're good enough, move up through the higher stakes tables until you you're good enough to play at the highest stakes tables.
    Just my humble opinion.
