OMG!

This is the same school district and the exact same elementary school where I had such problems with my son.

I took on the board of education regarding him and won. Won't they ever learn? I hope this poor student's parents take them through the ringer. Something has got to change!

Teachers SHOULD act like CARING PARENTS! They should NOT act like the managerial BULLIES they often do!

I don't understand the "paid administrative leave" - guess that's a union thing?

She should be fired for taking the video of the student - let alone for taunting him and not helping him right away.

The paid administrative leave seems to be reserved for govt workers and educators - in the private sector you are fired immediately for something like this. That's WITHOUT pay.

It's horrible and it also sounds like many of the other parents support the teacher but not the parents of the autistic kid.

I don't understand why the teacher filmed and then spread the footage. I'm puzzled and troubled about why she felt the need to do that because that was not very nice in my book and it was uncalled for.

Also in the minus column, what's with the taser comment?

It's very interesting that the other parents support the teacher or at least every parent interviewed seemed to support the teacher.

I wonder what the actual numbers are as far as support or not.

TL, it has been said at one of the meetings with the school board that the term "taser" means something different at the school. They said that taser means to be held down and tickled in the ribs.

Even if that is the case, why would you go and tickle a child in distress stuck in the back of a chair rather than trying to free him?

I DOUBT that, and if it WERE true, one would have to explain HOW that is made CLEAR! A word subject to such CLEAR misunderstanding is BOUND to be misunderstood.

STILL, I happen to know, and have spoken with autistic people, and even being held down could be the same as a full on POLiCE TASER! The SAME with TICKLING! It is a DOCUMENTED difference with the perception of touch, etc... that some autistic people have. So whether they are "telling the truth" or not, it is a LIE!

A child with autism who is very sensitive may be greatly troubled -- sometimes even pained -- by sounds, touches, smells, or sights that seem normal to others.

Unions get blamed for enough things. They are not the "paid administrative leave". Is a government thing.

I agree the person shoulve have had immediate termination.

It's my understanding that the TEACHERS union mandates tenure and disciplinary action. NON union schools don't have these things from what I have heard.

If it is a government thing, why does it only seem to cover unions? MOST, but NOT ALL, government jobs are union, etc...

And WHO got this INTO the government?

Considering how easily something like this could get out to others, it seems really stupid to videotape this kind of thing (not to mention doing this in the first place).
